hi everyone, im an 18 year old girl that is going to be having this surgery, known as a pericardectomy, which is the removal of the sac around my heart. I havent really heard about anyone having this type of surgery esp. someone my age, so i was just wondering if anyone had known anybody or had had it done themselves if you could give me a little insight to it. If anyone has any information that would be great! Thanks! Kelsey

 Hello  I am getting this operation done next month. Can I ask where you are going for your operation? It isn't a common surgery. There is another web site that might give you some answers. The Cleveland Clinic seems to be the place that does a lot of these surgeries. I wish you the best of luck.

Glad to find you! I will be having a pericardectomy for constrictive pericarditis, and I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had open heart surgery as a result of an ongoing congenital heart defect. More specifically, I have Ebstein's Anomaly (one of perhaps 40 congenital heart defects, and a rarer one) and had my tricuspid valve repaired at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester) in 2003. If anyone has encountered pericardial constriction as a result of their original congenital heart surgery and has had a pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis, please write with any helpful details and tips you are able to share. Hello and welcome to HealingWell. I am sorry to hear you are facing surgery but Mayo is a good place. You can tell I am from MN, actually only 40 minutes from Rochester.

Thanks, Kitt, for your reply. Do you think I have posted my outreach question with the right title? I have not heard from anyone yet. I chose "pericardiectomy" but could start a new thread called "pericardiectomy to cure constrictive pericarditis." What do you think?
