I am newly diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation.... and looking for someone with the same condition to chat with.  Please tell me if you have any suggestions as to how I can find someone.  Thanks.

Hi Grammy -
I'm a grammy with frequent tachycardia, but have not been diagnosed with AFIB. I can usually get it stopped with Valsalva maneuvers or coughing. I have once had it go to a heart attack, once lasted 5 hours at 145- 165, needed adenosine conversion.

Grammy, I was just Dx'd w/A fib in Sept '10. I haven't found an A fib or arrhythymia forum as active as I've found here for Crohn's disease and a couple of apnea support forums. *sigh*

I was started on coumadin and cardizem during an ER visit, met w/a cardiologist who increased the cardizem and added Rhythmol. Have run into some edema problems in legs and feet w/the cardizem so am currently being switched over to Toprol. My "goal" is to be able to reduce to "just" the Rythmol. Maybe even the Rythmol as a "pill in a pocket" tho that is probably wishful thinking.

Sorry to hear of your joining the ranks--I was diagnosed with A-flutter last summer, and the doc I saw then wasn't too aggressive about it. This progressed to occasional A-fib and the next doc I saw took it seriously, thank goodness. He sent me to a great electrophysiologist who did an ablation procedure
a week ago.

The theory was getting rid of the A-flutter might also help control the A-fib, and the sooner the better.

I wasn't a good candidate for beta-blockers because my heart rate slowed down a lot at night. However, during the ablation I went into a really bad A-fib and they had to shock my heart to get it to settle down. Because of that the doc put me on sotalol. Also am on coumadin. The night of my ablation, I had a fairly hard, sharp pain in my heart for maybe 20-30 seconds. The nurse was right there and did an EKG which was fine. Evidently, that was when my heart converted to sinus rhythm and it has been fine ever since, with a few extra beats every once in a while.

So, I'm glad I had it done.

A word to Chronietoo--I've got a fairly nasty flare of UC going on now, too. If I could ever get both ends of my body healthy at one time, I'd be in Heaven!!
