Starting Flecainide Acetate today...?????

I am still anxious to talk to someone with AFIB.... I am starting my FOURTH medicine today.  I was on Diazem when discharged from hospital....then my dr. changed that to Multaq.  A few days later, he added Metropolol....... and now is stopping the Multaq and starting Flecainide.... I have AFIB almost everyday and sometimes 2-3 times a day.  Some last 1 hour and some last 5 hours.... I have gone as long as 2 days with NO Afib.... Seems to be no rhyme or reason for the onset.  I sooo want to talk to others who have this condition, but no one will respond.  I just want to talk to someone else who is experiencing the same problems.... or similar problems. I am hoping this new medicine that I am starting today will work.  Thanks for any input.

Hi Grammy,

Flecainide is used to prevent certain types of life-threatening irregular heartbeats. Flecainide is in a class of medications called antiarrhythmics. It works by slowing electrical signals in the heart to stabilize the heart rhythm.

Occasional A-Fib:  In this case it's called paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. You may have symptoms that come and go, lasting for a few minutes to hours and then stopping on their own.

Chronic A-Fib: With chronic atrial fibrillation, symptoms may last until they're treated.

It does sound like you have sx of occasional Atrial Fib.

I hope someone with this condition does respond to your posts.

Hi Grammy,
I have had for the past two years what was orgionally diagnosed as A_fib that came and went with no rhyme or reason. Now a new electro-physiologist has recently diagnosed it as Atrial flutter which he says a simple ablation proceedure will cure. I have to wait 3 months to get in and have it done. Meanwhile he gave me flecanide as an anti arrhythemic drug. I have been on it for 3 weeks and it is amazing how well it has helped me. I have not had any heart arrhythemia for3 weeks now. I feel so good . It has been so long since I felt this good that I forgot what normal felt like!
I note your post was back in January so how are you now?

I was recently Dx'd w/paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (late last summer). I'm on coumadin, of course. But was also started on Diltiazem which I had to discontinue due to edema. I was started on Rythmol (an anti-arrhythmic) as well. The Diltiazem was replaced w/Toprol (metoprolol). I haven't had an episode since the third day of Rythmol last fall. knock, Knock, KNOCK.

I'm hoping to discontinue the Toprol this summer and if all goes well then discontinue the Rythmol except as a "pill in my pocket" treatment should it be needed.
