Pericardiectomy Soon

I will be having surgery within a few weeks to remove the pericardium. Feeling very anxious and nervous about everything and would love to speak to someone who has been through these circumstances---and most preferably has comforting thoughts to share. :)

All I can say is my husband had this done 4 years ago when he was 58. He had had pericarditis [undiagnosed] and that led to a thickening of the pericardium. He was out of hospital after 6 days and took about 2 months to feel much better 12 months to be totally himself. He went from being out of breath, unable to walk and eat unable to bend to tie his shoes or to go to work to feeling so much better in about 2 weeks. He was in pain but was given analgesia to control it. He says the worst thing is if you get constipated!! We were so so scared but when it came to it felt calm and confident. By now you may have had your op, if not take heart, chin up and post soon to tell us it was a breeze.XXX
