Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I feel much better having found it. I have HBP and take medication for that. I was diagnosed with MVP about 8 -10 yrs ago. I'm a male age 53. From day one I've been told it's a quite a pronounced MVP with possible surgery in the future. However, I never really gave it much thought because my doctors never gave me the impression it was currently serious. The only thing I had to do was take antibiotics before dental procedures and get an annual Echo (sonigram of the heart). Then November of 2010 I was told by my cariologist I needed a stress test. He got mixed results and said to plan of having surgery in a couple of months to repair the valve. I was reluctant because of the mixed results so he made me come back for a stress test and echo at the same time. Once again, mixed results then he suggested a TEE procedure. I'm going in on Tuesday for the TEE results. Now as you are well aware, many people with MVP cannot handle much stress. Well this has placed me under much pressure and stess to the point it's all I think about. Prior to Novemeber I was pretty much asymptomatic. Since all the attention I've been getting from my cardiologist and all these tests, it's all I think about . I now have all the classis sypmtoms of MVP... pain in chest, shakes, heart palatatioins, much anxiety, shortness of breath (while undergoing my stress tests both times I was on the tredmill 3 minutes longer then usual becuase I had no shortness of breath) waking up at 3 am and not able to go back to sleep. I'm not sure what to do anymore. I really don't want surgery. Have others in the forum had surgery to repair the MV? What were the results? What happens if I decide not to have surgery? I feel the stress of having surgery will probably kill me. I really feel I wish I knew nothing of my condition.
