I found another article this morning and these are all .gov sites where the info comes in first from them to us.  I had HBP at one time before my Heart Failure and that is also when I developed the fibroids, which led to my hysterectomy.  Interesting...  Teri

Teri, i also had hbp and then a partial hystertomy. One dr told me many yrs ago that i had fibroids, but then a yr later i was told i didn't. Three yrs later my tumor had grown so large i had to have my pancrease cut as well.

Now i have diabetes and heart disease.

jtu, I'm so very sorry to hear that!! 

I do have to wonder what happened to those fibroids during that time frame?  How can you miss fibroids??  Okay, maybe I'm being too harsh?  Maybe there is a way they could have missed it?  Anyone?

Hey Kathleen, we did the visualization thing in stess class. I thought that worked really well. I like to do the progressive muscle relaxation when I can't get to sleep. That works really well for that. I learned that one years ago on a diet tape I had. Any tips you have to pass on would be appreciated. Barb

I must have known somewhere in the back of my brain that these things were happening.  That advertisers were directing things (as they are expected to do)-after all this is their job.  Though it wasn't until I actually read this article tonight, did it really hit me and open my eyes more fully. Please take the time to read this, especially if you were, or are a smoker.

When I click on the link it says that page cannot be found. I have not heard of the taxus eluding stent. I had a drug eluding stent, but not sure what the name of it was now.

No, you are right Kathlyn!! Apparently they only keep the articles for so long...so I guess you'd have to search the other site that I gave like the Journal of American College of Cardiology.

Teri, I think you're a little more optimistic than I am, that they are taking women more seriously in the ER and correctly diagnosing heart disease. It's not true in my experience. I have NO health issues other than my heart, and NONE of the other risk factors other than family history - wellll, and my own history of rheumatic fever, aortic stenosis, mitral & tricuspid regurg, LVH, right BBB, moderate pulmonary hypertension, 2 past MI's - and how on earth they could have come up with a diagnosis of GERD (first I'd heard of that was on my discharge papers, which I refused to sign) after 3 days of chest pain protocols....after being admitted from the ER. Hmmmm. Were they unloading me because I have no health insurance? Anyway, heads up - if I can get misdiagnosed, so can you!

On the hysterectomy/increased heart risk issue....I've read everything I can find on this (since hyst this past October). This needs more study, and IMO is not a cause for alarm, necessarily. The WHI study was flawed, in that most of the participants already had several risk factors for heart disease, such as being 55-65, being on HRT (yes that is a BIG risk! - don't go there!) having high BP, some had diabetes, and most were overweight. It was a very flawed study in that regard and it's no surprise at all that the women who participated in that group had higher risks and the results were skewed. More studies are needed....as usual. Sigh.

I see that my job is to learn everything that I can - so I can be more pro-active and advocate for my own health (and thank you Teri - and all of you who participate for such an incredible source of info here!

I'm very glad to meet you and have you here!!  Yes, you are right in some aspects-many women are still not treated as equals at many hospitals.  However where I would disagree, is perhaps where you are being seen and treated at!  I've never had that ignoring of anything woman syndrome, when it comes to heart disease-they spotted it before I knew I even had it!!

 

I've had great care in the state of Texas and I wouldn't settle for anything less! tongue When I see my Dr.'s I have a list ready for them! lol  They love it-I also write to my Senators and Congressman when necessary for health care.  The Heart Hospital that I'm seen at takes women quite seriously and they've done everything they could-when I found a Dr. that didn't think I was doing so hot, and I felt that he'd given up on me (whether that was the case or not) I just switched Dr.'s!  Sometimes personalities clash...they're humans, too. tongue

 

I'm so very sorry for what you are going through, Oona, but I think you've found the right place here and please, jump in anytime you want or need to!!

I had my thermal ablation in 199 they were also going to take out fibroids too and when they went in their they were gone and we saw them all on the x-ray's and intrvaginial ultrsound too the doctor couldnot understand it but i had a huge Church praying for me over 25,000 members and my angel too and they were gone. he also told me husban he is glad they were gone for I had a heart attack on the table and if they had to take out the fibroids and do the  ablation i mioght not would of made it. i am through menopause too but will aske about fibroiuds next year when i goback for my annual pap again since no more periods but a constant low back pain that makes me sleep on a heating pad now and then.

I almost feel bad for being here...so I hope you all forgive me
But here goes - Its been a long time since I visited because the "pain" went away...
I was having pain in the center of my chest...radiating to my back , sometimes up to my face
it would only last for about 5 minutes ...It would come and go at various times...but only about once or twice a week- lasted for months and months

I never went to the hospital because it would "pass" and because I have NO insurance
I finally went to a doc who told me my "bra" was too tight...needless to say I have not gone back to him - oh , and I am a crohns disease patient , if that means anything ???

but about 2 days ago I had a pain again for the first time in about 3 months...only this time it was on my left side...just above my breast towards the center ( but not in the center) it only lasted a min or two - so i thought maybe its just arthritis ( which i also have)
BUt tonight , we came home from food shopping and "hurricaine" shopping ( live in Pensacola Florida ! ) and i got hit with the same pain but more severe...and it hurt bad when I took a breath....i was already very tired so I dont know if the feeling of weakness was all in my head or if it meant something...but , i sat down, my hubby gave me an asprin and i waited...and prayed...it took about 15 minutes adn then faded away

sooo, what do yall think?
I have a "first" appt with a GP next wednesday , still no insurance...but i do have a job finally and my insurance kicks in August 1st...but, if i report this it will become a Pre Existing condition which will hurt me ...

any advice?

I'm glad you are getting seen soon, but if you continue to have the pain, please go to the ER. I had pain for four days, although atypical, and could not breathe. By the time I went in, I had heart damage and almost did not make it. BTW, it's a longer story I won't bore you with now. I'm sure more can tell you some more horror stories. It might not be heart. It could be something to do with your chron's disease (I am very ignorant about the disease), anxiety, etc. I hope it is something treatable. But none of us are doctors. I say if you have a pain in your chest, or any pain or something that makes you feel that concerned you should get it checked out and don't wait another day. Kathy

Hi again, Misterie!  I wish I would have seen this post before I answered your other one tonight, but I stand firm on seeing someone re your problems as soon as you are able.  It's better to be safe than sorry!

 

Do you still have your gallbladder?  Have you ever been diagnosed with gastric reflux?, or asthma?  I have gastric reflux and asthma as well as angina and other heart problems.  I will admit that there have been a couple of times, I was sure it was angina and it turned out to be my GERD!  It actually caused esophageal spasming along with a bad chest pain to the back and left arm pain.  I was admitted from ER to CCU and it lead from that to upper GI testing.

 

Please see what you can do to make sure that it's not your heart causing these problems!!
