New here...My husband's parents both died of heart attacks. His dad was 65 and his mom was 71. His mom had P.A.T. His dad and mom both had hypertention and cholesterol issues. I am concerned about my hsuabnd. He isn't on medication. He is 46 yrs old. He has had some BP issues, but nothing "major" per the doctor. it was 134/74 the other day, but 2 weeks ago 144/98 which I thought wa sworth checking into.

Today he was complaining of some chest "pressure that radiated to his shoulder blade area". He is stubborn and wouldn't go to the ER or an urgent care center. I don't know what to do. Would an EKG show anything at a Dr's office tomorrow...(providing something worse doesn't happen later, I know!)...?

Also, we are having some stressful issues....personal things..sorry for TMI..he is a blue collar worker, also...

I am sorry to hear of your concerns re your husband.  Depending on what is causing his chest/shoulder pressure - his EKG would probably be normal.  I would encourage you to talk with him on getting a medical screening exam to rule out any cardiac condition.

Stress can also cause chest pain/discomfort but I would caution you to error on the side of safety until proven otherwise..............if your hubby will see his Dr. that would be awesome.

I had an heart attack about an year back. I was very healthy with an average 10 mile a week running, body well sculpted due to gymming etc.BUT i did smoke , drink a few pegs every day. They had to put in a stent and i felt very normal with in 4 weeks. I was on medication but since i felt very normal with controlled BP , Cholestrol, EKG etc i started my old routine of running , gymming even though my cardiologist advising me to go slow and never to increase my heart rate to over 123 until the doctors gave me an ok. I could not accept the fact that, i could have an heart attack since i was very healthy. Last week, i started having some discomfort again and when i did a check up they say the stented artery was again clogged. I could not believe it..what could be the reasons..

I understand how hard it is to accept that we have a medical dx when we feel like we are fine but I believe your Drs. have given you your answer, you appear to have Coronary artery disease, or simply called heart disease.

 

You do not have a heart issue and if you can learn to accept that you have heart disease I believe you will start setting goals to help work at taking better care of yourself.  Make this goal a continual process. 

 

Looking for the answers to "Why me?"  will not change your need to trust in your Dr. and follow his advice.  I have found the answer to "Why me?" to be " Why not me?". It was not the answer I was looking for and I know how unfair it feels to be hit with a medical condition you never thought would ever be an issue for you.
