Swamy,
Welcome to HealingWell and I am glad you found us. I can understand why you are confused and worried about your Mother and I am sorry this is happening to your Mom.
Dilated cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting your heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle). The left ventricle becomes enlarged (dilated) and can't pump blood to your body with as much force as a healthy heart can.
The goals of treatment for dilated cardiomyopathy are to treat an underlying cause if it's known, improve blood flow, reduce symptoms and prevent further heart damage.
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is used to treat the delay in heart ventricle contractions that occur in some people with advanced heart failure.
The CRT pacing device (also called a biventricular pacemaker) is an electronic, battery-powered device that is surgically implanted under the skin.
CRT improves symptoms of heart failure in about 50% of patients who have been treated maximally with medications but still have severe or moderately severe heart failure symptoms. CRT improves survival, quality of life, heart function, the ability to exercise, and helps decrease hospitalizations in select patients with severe or moderately severe heart failure.
Dopamine is a medication that can only be given in a hospital setting. I am wondering what medications your Mom is currently using ?
Perhaps a visit with the 1st Dr. to discuss in detail the options, pros and cons including the role of medication in treating your Mother would be wise. Gather all the data and then sit with your Mom to discuss with her what her wishes are.
Again I am sorry you are both going through this tough time.
Kindly,
Kitt
