Atrial Septal Defect at an infant

First I want to apologize for my poor english, which is not my mother language.

The infant of my near relative has the congenital heart disease ASD (Atrial Septal Defect). She is 3 years old and they had the opinion from 2 doctors already, who both diagnosed the same. The infant has a big hole in the heart and she needs to undergoe a surgery to survive immediate. The vein from her heart connecting to her lungs is bit swelling already and need to be operated as soon as possible.

The mother is now in panic, since she is thinking, that only an immediate surgery can rescue the life of her baby. And her health insurance is that poor and will not cover the op, which is quite expensive. I could help to finance it, but not now, maybe in 3 or 4 month, my current financial situation dont allow it now. The mother is thinking, that the baby will die soon.

I want to take away her fears, I have talked with some people who had the same disease and they all told me, that it is not acute dangerous! But why did 2 doctors told the mother, that the baby needs a surgery immediate, or she will die soon?

The hole in the heart of the infant is bigger already, I dont know when it will be really dangerous.

I hope to get some informations here, also to calm down the mother. As I said, I no one can afford the surgery and I could afford to pay it, but not now, maybe in 3 month.

I havent checked the search function of the forum, since I am in huge working stress. I worked this week already 80 hours and every second for me is precious, actually I dont have the time to eat and sleep. But I need to get serious information about this disease a.s.a.p., please help.
