Chest pressure from last couple of weeks

Welcome to HealingWell. A bit more info might help us see the whole picture.  If your Echo was abnormal what was the Drs. conclusion and why did he start you on the medications ?

Celebrex (celecoxib) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain or inflammation and freqeuntly prescribed for people with arthritic pain.

I will be looking for a bit more info if you are willing to share.

Your symptoms really do sound like mine. I've had a bunch of different symptoms for the last 2+ years and they do come and go.

But I know the one in particular in which you are talking about. I get burning down my esophageous (sometimes without burning), chest tightness or pressure, and my chest cavity even in my back seems inflammed. Often times when the tightness occurs, I do end up burping, so I do think it might be air bubbles. I also suffer from anxiety, but it is hard to think I create these problems??

I did go to the ER twice. I even had palpiations (PVC's) that came and went for over a year after starting prilosec, so I went off of that.

The ER also told me it was acid reflux. I followed up with a gastroenterologist one year ago and he did an EKG and a Stress Echo. He told me my heart was healthy and that it was probably either acid reflux OR muscular skeletal pain.

I then went to a gastroenterologist and he performed an upper endoscopy and took a biopsy in the lining of my stomac to see if I was celiac. I did have mild gastroitis and I do have a history of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

I tried prilosec, but it really messed up my symptoms and trigged heart palpitations. I now take Gaviscon (OTC) in cherry flavor as needed per my Gastroenterologist.

It is frustrating. I am really trying to clean up my diet to see if there is a change. I wish you the best that you can find a diagnosis that you are comfortable with. Acid Reflux (GERD) can cause sooooooooooooo many strange and odd symptoms as can anxiety. And since I have them both (as well as questionable fibromyalgia) it is hard to determine which one.

I appreciate you reply.
The chest pressure appears to be gone most of the times. But I still feel discomfort at epigastric region although its not that severe as it was couple of weeks ago. The stomach ultrasound test report is negative.
Right now I am taking prilosec 40mg once a day. The doctor would like to do a upper endoscopy now.

I have an update to my earlier post. Starting on Tuesday, my chest discomfort started around noon and would not let up. Before it would only last a few seconds to a few minutes. It was an ache centered around the breastbone mostly but would at times move up or slightly below that area. Yesterday at noon, I became very concerned and decided to go to the ER. They performed an EKG (normal) and heart enzyme tests to check my heart further. This came back good - so no heart attack or impending heart attack. When I asked what could be causing the problem, the Dr said it could be many things, but it was not my heart. This was comforting, but the ache was still there. It is on and off happening today. Also, the Dr. told me because of my exercise routine of doing 2-2.5 miles with hills included that I would breeze through a basic stress test using just leads and a treadmill/bike. He said to make sure that the cardiologist was aware of my exercise routine on Monday because a basic stress test would be a waste. In other words, to use something that tracks the flow of blood instead to get the best and most accurate results. Good to know.

As I wrote before, Bystolic can cause chest ache and gastronomical problems. I believe this with the stress of the last few months of cycling through various BP meds has led to the problem.

Glad to hear all test were in the normal range.  Antibiotics are used to treat chronic gastritis caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori. Have you been tested for H-pylori ? For most people gastritis isn't serious and improves quickly with treatment.

Antibiotic regimens are different throughout the world. In the United States, antibiotics prescribed for treatment of H. pylori include amoxicillin, clarithromycin (Biaxin), metronidazole (Flagyl) and tetracycline.

Proton pump inhibitors reduce acid by blocking the action of the parts of cells that produce acid.  Perhaps you would do better on a different PPI ?

Histamine (H-2) blockers — reduce the amount of acid released into your digestive tract, which relieves gastritis pain and encourages healing. Available by prescription or over-the-counter, acid blockers include ranitidine (Zantac), famotidine (Pepcid), cimetidine (Tagamet) and nizatidine (Axid).

I am sure your family Dr. will make the right decision on how to treat you, however, remember to be your own best advocate.

Hello,
Just to update as Dr prescribed carafate three time a day now.

My endoscopy results rule out "reflux". Does it mean I dont have GERD?
Now a new symptoms appears to be affecting me. I feel like something is stuck in my throat. :(

Any help or suggestion...

they sound just like mine also
it was Anginya they gave me some nitro
to spray under my tounge
was wiating for a heart valve
sounds like you need some more tests
its scarry and you just do not no what to do
I found resting was helpfull

Worried 32 help! Past 13 days have had this constant burning in chest or blockage feeling in throat! It's one or other been to ER 3 times and they admitted me on 3 rd trip. Not heart sent time to gastro did endoscopy today and its normal! Ugh still burning! Don't know what to do! ;(
