PFO closure with device and pregnancy

I am 26 years old and am scheduled to have device closure with either gore helix or amplatzer in one week. I am VERY nervous. (mostly because I have a one year old daughter). I am having to have this done due to increased blood flow through my PFO and enlargement of my right ventricle. I have a few questions if anyone can share their experience:
1. Has anyone had Children and healthy pregnancie...s after device placement? (My doctor says its safe but I can find no research)
2. I'm concerned about displacement - I see the risk is low but has anyone had this happen?
3. what are the long term outcomes? Anyone have success stories at 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
4. Has anyone had problems with cardiac perforation or tamponade?

I'm very nervous and I work in the medical field which sort of makes me even more nervous. I know I need to have this fixed because I dont want to have a stroke, develop CHF, pulmonary hypertension or any adverse things that will happen if it is not but I also want to be aware of others experiences. thanks for your help

Hello summerl,

Welcome to HealingWell. I have read different answers from different cardiologists - some say you need to wait 6 months after the closure and others say 1 year after the closure before getting pregnant. I have no personal experience with a closure so I do hope someone else comes by to help answer your questions.

If you are worried about getting pregnant- please do talk to your cardiologist.
