Hello!
My name is Hannah, I am 24 years old. I had my ASD-closure for 1 year ago. I, aswell as alot of others have got big problems with migraines after the closure. My hole was 22-23mm in diameter and I had a big shunt. After my mother got problems with her heart they found the hole and closed it, because I am so alike my mother we also checked me, and yes, I also had a hole, mine was the double size of y mothers. My mother has not have any problems with migraines after her closure, so I don't know if my problems and approximately 10-20% of other patients (according to a cardiologist who's done studies regarding migraine after ASD-closure) have anything to do with the size and the shunt.
I almost feel like I regret the procedure, because of my problems with migraines with aura, but also the heaviness in my head that I have almost every day.
It is a big concern that all patients doesn't get better while some (most of the patients) have no problems at all. Still, it feels as if there is a risk of getting problems post-ASD Closure.
The best thing for you who still haven't got it done, look into all different options, maybe you don't have to close it with the device and therefore not have any problems afterwards.
Try to talk to your doctors and see what they think, but there is certainly a connection between migraines and the procedure for some patients, it can not be a coincident that so many get these problems.
If you would like to talk further you can always email me on:
[email protected]I have been in contact with 2 different doctors from the US, who agrees with these problems. So if you have any more questions, I might be able to answer them or give you my opinion.
Good luck everyone!
Hannah
