Hello, I need some advice.
My dad is a diabetic, 61 years old. He recently had chest pain and went to the doctor to get it checked out. The doctor sent him to the ER and it was determined he had a heart attack earlier that morning. They did the angiogram that day and found 3 main arteries that were >90% blocked. The cardiologist determined he needed a triple bypass surgery for the following morning, however before he could complete the angiogram, my dad went into another heart attack and the doctor had to put in 2 emergency stents into one of the arteries since it became completely 100% blocked. My dad is recovering well, however the question regarding the other two blocked arteries still need to be addressed. Since he has to take strong blood thinners (due to the stents), he is unable to do any type of surgery for the next couple of weeks.
We now need to know what the best next step should be. Double bypass? or Stenting the other two arteries as well (which can be done). Keep in mind that he already has 2 stents in and if we do the stenting, he would need 3 more stents for the other two arteries making a total of 5 stents. Bypass is more invasive however more long term according to the research I've read. Also I read that with a bypass, he will have to go off his blood thinners for at least 5 days which increases risk for a blood clot in those 5 days.
Any thoughts?
