I had a list of things that I wanted to discuss with my Cardiologist yesterday when I saw him. One of my questions was in regards to the intake of Calcium and arterial blockage and heart disease. I told him that I took at least 800 mg. to a 1,000 mg. of Calcium per day, plus soy milk and yogurt and did he think that it could cause problems with a buildup of calcium in my arteries.
His answer was direct and to the point. "No." He said you need the calcium.
The only side effect that I could personally find re the intake of calcium was people who were inclined to get kidney stones, taking high amounts of calcium might not be a good thing. They should discuss this with their Dr.'s.
Your body excretes excess calcium in urine and feces, so there is usually not a worry with that.
