Anrol,
Welcome to
HealingWell and our Heart & Cardiovascular Disease peer
support discussion forum.
You have a right to be worried about your boyfriend and if he will listen to you I would suggest you advise him to see a physician for a complete medical screening exam.
Tobacco use
in of itself increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attack,
however smoking cigarettes poses the most risk. The ingredients in cigarettes
alone pose serious risks to the heart. The addictive agent of tobacco,
nicotine, is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease associated with
smoking.
It is well
known that alcohol can affect the liver and abuse of the substance may lead to
cirrhosis of the liver. However, many do not know that alcohol use is also a
cause of cardiovascular disease. Abusing alcohol increases the fatty deposits
in the blood leading to atherosclerosis, it raises the blood pressure, and
increases the risks of coronary heart disease.
With lifestyle changes he can reduce his risk of having a heart attack. As things stand right now he is at risk for cardiovascular disease including a heart attack. He should see a physician or present to an emergency room if these symptoms return.
I wish you the very best and keep on talking with us.
Kindly,
Kitt
