ablation

Hi I am new to this chat room.   I have atrial fibrilations and flutter and have been advised that an ablation is in my very near future.  I am on Multaq and Diltiazem.  Seem to be working although I still feel the palpitations.   Was told long term use of meds is not good and that they are only a band aid to the problem and that ablation could fix.   Dr. was forthcoming and said many times you need to have more than one ablation done.   My question to anyone who has had an ablation for afibs would you do it again?  was it worth it?  I understand the risks but I also understand the risks if I don't have it.   any advice is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  Also known as a cardiac ablation or radiofrequency ablation, this procedure guides a tube into your heart to destroy small areas of heart tissue that may be causing your abnormal heartbeat.  Is this the type of cardiac ablation you had done ?

Variations of the procedure have evolved over time.

I've heard that 2nd CA are not unusual to get those minute areas that might have been missed originally.  I have also knew a friend who had 3 ablations. Both of these cases were for Atril Fib.

When in doubt always advocate for yourself and seek out a second opinion.

I can understand your fears and the many questions you have.  I am dealing with cancer and any chronic health condition brings fear along with it.  Keeping you in my prayers.
