Hello to Everyone and Welcome,A Stress Echocardiogram is a highly specialized test, and although it involves similar elements to an ordinary exercise test and an echocardiogram, it provides very specific information about the heart in a non-invasive way.
A Stress Echo is made up of three parts: A resting Echo study, Stress test, and a repeat Echo while the heart is still beating fast.
A dobutamine stress echocardiogram is a diagnostic procedure that may be used if exercise on a treadmill is not an option due to a person’s medical or physical condition. A doctor may use an intravenous medication called dobutamine because it causes the heart to beat faster and will mimic the effects of exercise on the heart.
Generally, there is no special type of care following a dobutamine stress echocardiogram. However, your doctor may give you additional or alternate instructions after the procedure, depending on your particular situation.
Try your best to keep your anxiety down and know the appointment will take about one hour. The actual infusion time is usually about 15 minutes. You should plan to stay for at least 30 minutes after completing the procedure to make sure all is OK before being discharged.
