I was having an irregular heartbeat at a standard appointment a few weeks ago and my PCP thought it was A-fib so I was sent for an EKG. The EKG was about an hour or two later and my heart was much calmer by then although something still showed up slightly abnormal. I was then sent to a cardiologist, had another EKG which was okay and the suggestion was a 30 day event monitor and echocardiogram. Is this a normal recommendation?
I am very skeptical of doctors and don't want to be strung along for unnecessary tests and procedures. I'm in my 20's, female, no drugs, drinking, smoking, etc. I kind of thought the cardiologist was going to blow it off because of my age and no risk factors but no such luck. The justification that the cardiologist gave was potential heart damage from a high fever I had two years ago. I do have many troubling symptoms, but most of them are due to a completely different non heart-related condition.
