I was on this site almost a year ago trying to find some answers for dealing with PVCS. There are so many threads I just hope someone reads this and finds it helpful. I have always been in good shape, great treadmill stress tests , etc. I March 2012 I really over inbibed at annual St. Patricks Day party --- drank too much, stayed up too late.
The next day I began noticing what I thought was a skipped heartbeat. After several days of this an EKG run by my primary care doctor cofirmed I was having PVCs which he said were benign and which most people have without even noticing. After having me take a tread mill stress test which I passed with flying colors (not even 1 PVC showed up)he said I should avoid cafeinne snd they might clear up. He had obviously never experienced them personally and did not realize how aggravating and disruptive they are, especially when trying to sleep at night. He also prescribed a sleeping pill which at least helped me get some rest at night. After about a month or so I noticed they had gone away and was greatly relieved.
Fast forward to late July 2012. A high school reunion and I drank too much in a short period of time. Next morning I had PVCs with a vengance. You would think I would have learned my lesson, that being, at least in my case, that over consumption of spirits was the catalyst for my PVCs. Back to doctor who tried me on a cpl of different beta blockers. None worked,He then referred me to a cardiologist who put me on a drug , name and type of which I dont recall He had me wear Holter Monitor for 48 hours and determined I was having about 9000 PVCs a day, which he was not concerned about. He indicated over 20, 000 a day could possibly cause long term heart muscle damage. The initial drug prescribed by cardiologist didnt work either. He then prescribed a drug, DILTIAZEM, in a time released capsule containing 180 mg, one capsule to be taken daily. Still no relief after several weeks. He upped the dosage to 360 mgs and after a cpl of weeks my PVCs disappeared and have not returned. I believe the DILTIAZEM was the silver bullet that got my life back to normal. Maybe it will also work for someone else. Find a good cardiologist and discuss with him. And DONT over indulge. I never have more than two drinks at a time anymore and hype never to experience these unnerving and annoying PVCs again. Hope someone finds this helpful
