Quit Nexium cold turkey

Hi,

My name is Lori and I'm 65. I started having heartburn problems way back 36 years ago when I was pregnant. I always carried Rolaids in my purse. In the last ten years I've lost 75 pounds; I lost at least 25 of it recently. I'd been taking OTC Prilosec for the last couple of years and it helped some but I still tried to stop eating a few hours before bed.

about two months ago, I found a nurse/practitioner whose network takes Medicare. I asked about Nexium, and she wrote me a prescription. My symptoms got worse. Stomach aches, and days of diarrhea. (I didn't realize a person's body could hold that much. Don't mean to be gross.)

I stopped taking any PPI drugs on Sunday and so far, so good. I've decided it's what you eat and when you eat that causes the most problems. The last couple of days I've mainly lived on yogurt and fruit to kind of clean out my system. I just have to realize that I can't eat things like chocolate or fried foods. If I decide to eat something like that every once in a while, I might have to pay the price with a stomach ache.

It was this forum that made me realize the Nexium is BAD, and PPIs in general are not the answer. Thank you so much.

welcome to the forum, and I hope you feel better. I have tried PPIs for my GERD, and the only one that works for me is Aciphex. It also was prescribed for me over the other PPIs. I have heard that it has gone generic, finally.
