Bypass Surgery...If you've had one, how do you feel today?

Have you had a bypass?  If you did have one, how long ago was it?  How many bypasses did you have?

Hi Teri, I am so excited, thanks for the information.  As you know I am a new member and I logged on today for my 2nd time and I see all these posts on by-pass surgery and GERD???  Never really heard that word before but apparently that is what the doctor is suggesting my husband has.  Chest pain caused from anxiety and some type of reflux.  I also noticed you were all getting together tomorrow at 8:00!  I will be there!  I can't wait.  It is just so nice to hear other people are3 going through the same things!  Thank you!  :o}  Turtlecol

I just spotted your posts and I did see you visiting last night. :)  I am just so glad that you did find us! yeah

You mentioned that your husband had a bypass in your other post here...?  How long ago did he have that done?  I'm at just 1 yr. and almost 1 month, but who's counting! lol

GERD is actually an abbreviation for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease - no wonder they abbreviate it!

Hi Teri!  Thanks for the reply!  It has been 3.5 years since my husband's by-pass.  That is one experience I do not ever want to go through again!  (him either!).  I felt so bad for him, he was in such pain and there was nothing I could do about it.  It was awful.  But, fortunately, he had a real good surgeon and he was back to work in 6 months and feeling great until 2002, since then he has been in and out.  They only by-passed 2 arteries because they said the third artery was too bad to bypass (??  there was no good artery to connect to).  So that is where all the stents are placed. 

So how are you feeling?  How many arteries did they bypass on you?  How are you feeling?  Did you go through a depression afterwards?  Take care, thanks for replying.  Turtlecol.

Yes, I was diagnosed with depression in 2003 right after I had been told that I had Heart Failure. I guess your mind can only absorb so much and when you realize your vulnerabilty in this lifetime, it makes you think too much, for too long...I'm on medication now for depression and anxiety and thank goodness for that!! :) As you or your husband read through some of these posts here, you will see a trend of depression running through them with several people. We do let our hair down and try to tell it like it is...that's what HealingWell is all about, trying to Heal Well. :) Say hi to your husband from me and I want you to know, my husband has been through the wash and rinse cycle right along side of you!! It's not always easy having to be the strong one.

I had a triple bypass

Wow!  a triple!  Sounds like you basically all go through the same stuff huh!  I have been telling my husband all about this website.  Hopefully this weekend I can show him how to get in and move around, I think reading everyone else's story will help him so much.  I keep printing out the information that you give me links to so he can read them.  Thank you! 

Well, the one thing I learned from all of this is that life can change in a flash and I certainly do appreciate every little thing I can each and every day now. 

So you are still on medication for anxiety and depression?  Do you really feel a difference?  How long does it take before you really notice a difference?  How long do you usually stay on these meds once you start them?  Thanks!  Turtlecol. yeah   I feel so much better already!!! :-)

I'm not sure that I will ever be 'off' of these med.'s. That's okay though. Having good, or better days is worth taking them. Having my family around me is definitely worth taking them!! :)

I have a son (31) and a daughter (17), so I very much want to be 'okay' for them and my husband!

There is a big difference it seems to me in the first day or two (of course everyone is different in their reactions), of taking the med.'s, then it seems to taper away and I feel just me again! Not as many tears, or tiredness - I try to volunteer when I'm able, right now I'm working on a bad back...but once that's taken care of, then I'll be back at life full force once again!
