Dignity

 

A seven letter word that means self respect - (to respect yourself).  It also means a lot more to someone who is dying. 

 

"Helping dying patients to relive and record important memories and thoughts may ease the distress many feel at the end of life"

This is only a study that was done, but I think it holds a lot of promise and perhaps 'dignity' to someone who has any potentially deadly disease, in our case here on this forum, End Stage Heart Disease.

 

What do you think?  Do you think that this is a good thing?

Hi Teri,

I read this article when it was posted and I think it is a great thing. Of course, who knows what someone is going through when they've reached their end, but for those who are open to this type of therapy, I can imagine it is highly beneficial.

Teri, this is an excellent article! As you know, I've lost my mother in law this summer to cancer. The way she died was very important, and that was with dignity and respect, and knowing that she meant so much to all of her loved ones. I think, too, that having the knowledge their life had purpose and meaning has to relate to any person who either is in the process of dying or has the high probability of dying in the near future. As you also know, I am a psychotherapist, and I know firsthand how much this has meant to my clients, such as recently with a client who died from heart complications. She/he really needed to know that her life made a difference before he/she left this world. Just an superb article. I'm glad someone did this research and that you found it!

  That was one of my biggest thoughts after I got out of the hospital..If I had died what would I have accomplished and would I be remembered for anything worthwhile..I keep toying with the idea of writing a book about my life thinking maybe it might help other people who face the same problems I have and help them come out to family and friends and maybe help the general community understand what it means to be TG..Unfortunately I have no spiritual beliefs of any kind so I feel that when I die I will simply cease to exist for all eternity and I think if I had to know I was dying it might be overwhelming to me near the end..I mean if I dwell on it now I get so panicked and upset I can`t sit still so I can only imagine how I`d be knowing I had days to go sad

Sara, I hope you do it. I think I should , too. I do scrapbook though and that is a way I hope to at least preserve my family, not so much about me, mabye.
