Hi,
I am a 46 year old woman who had a cryptogenic stroke on Sept. 9, 2017. Prior to my stroke, I was active (running, biking, hiking) and had no health issues that I knew of. After much testing, the only possible cause was a PFO. I had my PFO closed Nov. 9, 2017 with the Amplatzer occluder device.
The procedure itself was a breeze, although I was quite worried about it prior to having it done. Recovery has gone smoothly thus far (3 1/2 months and counting). I was put on Plavix and Aspirin for 6 months, then just Aspirin.
I have had some side effects of the Plavix (woozyness, heart beating loudly, weird feelings in my body), but nothing too terrible. I am curious to see if the way I feel changes after I'm off the Plavix.
At my 6 week cardiology check up, the device placement looked great, and my heart was functioning fine. I go back in May for my 6 month check up.
