Hi there,
I had my latest CT scan done last November, and the following was noted in the CT scan results:
****3D Lab Measurements Report ****
Scan Date: 11/11/2015 4:00:00 PM
Protocol: Diameters Only
Diameters in mm Major Minor
Mid ascending aorta 46.80 46.00
**** End of 3D Lab Measurements Report ****
I haven't yet reached out to the cardiologist to request clarification as she's very busy, and I don't want to pester her too much. Can anyone advise? Does the Major value indicate outside diameter, or the largest value measured, with the minor being the smallest value measured at the mid ascending aorta?
Further in the report, the cardiologist listed the diameter at 4.4cm - but the previous seems to indicate it was measured at 4.7cm (rounded up), which would make sense since from 2011 to 2014, the growth was .2 to .3 cm, so it would stand that as these things grow, close to the end of 2015 would be larger than the 2014 measurement and pretty close for a .1cm/yr growth rate.
I have heard that these things grow slowly, they never really are totally stable, once they start. Is that true?
They also listed the pulmonary aneurysm I have as moderate to severe - while the pulmonary artery is the low pressure side, is the vessel as strong as the aorta, since it's under less pressure, or does it only develop to do it's job - eg it would be naturally thinner and perhaps not as strong as the aorta?
