I have heart disease (atherosclerosis, bypass surgery), and I’m wondering if I can reduce or eliminate my blood pressure meds (I take 100mg Toprol per day, and 5mg Altace). Because of a vegan diet I'm on now, my numbers have been getting low, although I don’t experience lightheadedness or anything. Thing is, I’m trying to run on a track a few times a week and I believe the Toprol is preventing my heart from beating fast enough to allow me to run for a while. My cardiologist would like me to stay on Toprol for “secondary prevention”, but I think I should be able to wean off it now that my BP is dropping because of the CHIP diet. What should I do? Thanks.
