Hello all,
I'm 23 and I've had pericarditis since I was 20. The first time ever I had to go the ER, as I couldn't even lay on my back without being able to breathe.. I've had 3 more times since then, and was diagnosed as viral, and now it's chronic. Because of these reoccurring episodes, I'm now taking 0.6mg of Colchocine TWICE a day, will eventually be 1 a day indefinitely, and being tapered off Ibuprofen currently.
After this last flair up I just feel completely hopeless. There's no telling what the "virus" is, no "cure", I feel like it's just like "take these medications and lets hope it doesn't come back" and if it does, they're talking steroids and/or surgery, both I would like to avoid.
Even if it's not true at all, I'm obese and I feel losing weight and eating healthier may help it, to at least not come back so often. But my doctor says I need to take it easy, but that's all I ever do.. I just sit on my computer all day. But this condition really motivates you to get healthy and fit, but now I'm being told I'm not aloud to.
Has anyone ever actually found "the cure"? Has anyone stopped it from actually coming back? If so I would really be interested to hear your stories. I'm only 23 and it's pretty scary knowing I may have this heart issue for the rest of my life
