Pulmonary hypertension and excessive coughing

Dear All,

My dad is 72 years old. He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension in 2001. Back then our doctor said that his condition was stage 1.

During winter time coughing is a problem we cannot seem to solve. It does not allow him to sleep well. During day time he is mostly quite with intermittent coughing. At night it is sometimes very very difficult to handle.

We have tried vaporiser, sleeping in an armchair and a host of drugs. Nothing appears to be a decisive solution. December to March period is awful, after March it is as if none of that really happened.

If there is anyone out there who can possibly help us, we would really appreciate it.

Hello & welcome to the forum. When is the last time your dad has been evaluated by his dr? Has he had any current tests to see if this has progressed any? If it's been awhile I suggest he get back in & see the dr. I am not sure what medications he is taking, but is there a possibility one of his medications could cause the cough. You can go to a Drugs.com & look up any of his medications & it will give a pretty detailed list of any potential side effects.

I checked the archives here at Healing Well but I could not find anyone having the coughing issue like your dad is experiencing. I do hope you can get some answers soon. Let us know what you find out.
