Clogged LAD being helped by collateral vessels?

My LAD is 100% clogged. my cardio dr says my LAD must have closed slowly which allowed my body to develop clloateral vessels that have prevented my heart from being damaged. He has recommended a Stent, Now I developed colitis after being on blood thinners,

Is doing nothing an option? do collateral vessels clog too.

Hi James & welcome to the forum. Listen to your dr, he is the specialist. You are very lucky that you developed the arteries, otherwise you probably would not be here today. Have the stent put in so you don't have to worry about this.

about the colitis, which kind do you have? There is infectious colitis that is cleared up with antibiotics, then there is colitis associated with IBD. What specifically did your dr say about the colitis? Do you have a copy of the biopsy report?

i had colitis flareups 25 years ago asacol and rowasa put it in remission so im guessing the IBD variety i wont see the biopsy report for a couple of weeks

Ok, yep you have the IBD colitis. I have crohns & UC & it can be quite the challenge at times. I do hope you will listen to your cardiologist about the stent. It is the least invasive procedure & I certainly would not want to try my luck at doing nothing. I am thinking they call your condition the Widow Maker because not everyone can develop new arteries as you did. Had these arteries not developed, you know the rest of that story.

I was planing on getting a stent and still hope to, but if i understand it right a steent means i need to be on blood thinners.
I am hoping the colitis can some how be managed for that time that I'm on the blood thinners. I've a lot to learn on all of the new (to me) and scary things that have come up this year.

thanks for your help. kudos to you for dealing with crohns & UC. must be tough.

James, the question about the blood thinner is certainly something to discuss with your cardiologist & your gi dr. before hand. I don't much care for those situations of trying to fix one problem & creating another.
