Hello! I had a nuclear stress test done a few days ago, the results of which I don't have access to, but doc explained that there is some kind of blockage in the lower chamber of my heart. I occasionally get shooting chest pains particularly when bending over at the waist.. I'm 40 yrs old btw. Not a lot of info I know, but does it sound possible that this could be a valve problem?

I'm currently awaiting a cardiac catheterization to determine extent of said blockage.. doc said it's probably mild but advised daily aspirin and to not do any vigorous exercise in the meantime...

He never asked about my diet though. It seems there's a bit of controversy about how much dietary cholesterol translates to cholesterol in blood/arteries, and I eat a ton of eggs. My cholesterol has always been great in blood tests so I never thought too much about it. Should I consider cutting back anyway?

Any opinions appreciated!

potsnpans, it's really difficult to say what all of this means until the stress test report & the results of the cath come back. I'm a little confused, blockage tends to be the arteries? I have an aortic valve problem that has been monitored for nearly 40 years. As long as we can keep my BP down hopefully it will never need to be replaced.

Your dr will most likely discuss diet once he gets all of the test results in. My drs say eat low fat & often they recommend the healthy heart diet. I don't eat many eggs so it's not an issue with me. I suggest when you see him to get the results of your tests make a list of questions & ask about diet. He is being wise to recommend the aspirin & no vigorous exercise until testing is complete.

I guess I was thinking valve problem --> stagnation --> clotting/blockage? I don't know this is kinda new territory for me. I suspect I have or have had some inflammation which may have done the damage. The cath procedure will evaluate valve function, right?

The cath will show pretty much everything. It is a painless procedure & they will give you something to relax you. I saw everything on the monitor, they took my glasses so my visual wasn't the best, lol. Have you had an echo done of your heart? Typically I do an echo, stress test & then there is another nuclear scan, I can't remember the name of it. This is the monitoring program I do. While it can be stressful a first dealing with all of this, the key is to catch things early if there is an issue. Be sure to get a coated aspirin so your stomach doesn't get irritated. My husband & I both are on the daily aspirin routine.

I haven't had the echo yet.. it was put on my schedule for a month after the nuclear stress test, but now the nuclear stress test results have prompted the cath procedure to come next.

Pretty neat to be able to watch the monitor smile
