Spike in Blood Pressure with Metoprolol Tartrate

I had a triple bypass on June 3 and was put on Metoprolol Tartrate (12.5 mg. twice a day). My BP was averaging 105/60 until August 16 (about 2 1/2 months). My BP has greatly increased averaging 140/75 with individual readings hitting 155/80. Has anyone else experienced this spike in their BP after taking the Metoprolol Tartrate? I have not changed any other medication nor has the manufacturer (aurobindo) changed. I'll be seeing my cardiologist soon but was curious if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!

Hi Buffalo Tom, that's odd that your BP suddenly starting spiking for sure. Are you taking your BP at the same time every day & what are your activities prior to taking it. This medication is used a lot to prevent heart attack patients. I wish I could give you an answer, I have been on 50mg ER for years, along with two other BP meds.

Hi Straydog and thanks for your reply. I do take the Metoprolol medication (which is the only medication I take) around the same time morning and evening. I haven't changed any activities so that's what makes this BP spiking a real mystery. I'll report back on what my cardiologist says and recommends.

How are your kidneys?
They play an important role in stabilising bp. Keep well hydrated. HT
