Hello Jules, how are you getting on? I found out today that my doctor wants to do a 'balloon' ablation next time. Am I right in thinking that you've had this done? I would really appreciate any infomation you can give me. He mentioned it taking 4 hours to do, so I'm not going through with it unless I get properly knocked out. I had so-called sedatives and pain relief with the last ablation (nothing for the 2 before that) and I really didn't like it.

That's great news that they are going to use the "balloon" method.

Yes that is what I had done.  I stayed awake for the whole thing.  Went into the cath lab at 8am and came out around 2:30pm.  I was very sedated so while it sounds like a long time I hardly remember it and slept a lot while they mapped the inside of my heart with the balloon.

The screens were all beside my head so I do remember watching them insert the balloon and into the chamber of the heart.  Then it takes a while for a 3D like image to be created.  Then is when they can see all at once all the points in your heart that are misfiring.  It's an awesome procedure and the most up to date technology.  If you have any questions about what I went through feel free to ask.

When are they doing your procedure?

Hi Juliet, Ive had 6 caths done and just had a balloon put in 3 weeks ago. I wasnt completely knocked out and was pretty aware of what was going on. I have never been completely knocked out for this procedure. But everyone is different with what they are comfortable with. I never had to stay overnight either, its an outpatient surgery. It's really not that bad of a surgry and you heal rather quickly. the only thing you have to do after it is over before they send you home is keep your leg straight without bending it at all for about 4 to 6 hrs. Nothing to it really! Good Luck and God Bless!

Thanks so much for your replies. The doctor needs to go through the atrial septum for my next ablation, has anyone had that done? I'm glad you both seem so upbeat! I assume you were cured?

Juliette, I wanted to clear something up that I responded to in your post. I made a mistake in saying you don't have to stay overnight for a balloon angioplasty. I did have to stay one night in the hospital for that. I didn't have to stay overnight for just the angiogram (for the dr. to look) but not do anything. I'm sorry for giving you the wrong information. Getting very forgetful in my old age. lol! I don't know what that procedure is so I can't comment on that.
