--While taking a shower about 2 PM today---i got a horrible attack of supraventicular tachycardia!   It scared the living daylites outta me!--Thought i was gonna die! eyes --My heart started to beat wildly & rapidly--momentarly went back to a regular beat for a second or two--then--started to beat erratically for a few more beats.

--To be honest--tho it SEEMED like an eternity (i was making promises to God--"I'll go to church every Sunday)---it only lasted--i'd say about 7-8 or at most 10 seconds.   I quickly put my bathrobe on---went into kitchen & told me wife.--At that point my heart had returned to normal rythm.   I finished my shower & shampooed--then took a valium & laid down. 

--My heart beat was..at this point--a "normal" 60 beats a minute.

--I have had these things on & off for 20 years now!   The cardiologist says not to worry--but--Gosh, do they scare the heck outta me!

--Anyone else get these scary episodes?     Robert

Hi Robert! Yes, I do get those kinds of episodes and until recently they scared the living daylights out of me. I was always sure I was going to die. For some strange reason, they have stopped scaring me. I think it is because I quite literally got tired of living in fear! Now, I just don't care! I never do die. They usually only last a few seconds, although I have had episodes where my heart seems to be beating wildly out-of-sync for as much as 5-6 minutes. However when I do have those long episodes, I always notice that I am not breathless, dizzy or having trouble breathing. I am just scared out of my mind. I'm tired of being scared about them and I don't have them often. It seems like they come even less now that I don't care. I have alot more PACs/PVCs than SVT but lately I just don't care about any of them and I seem better. I don't know how long this new attitude will last, but I hope it is a lifetime! I know that I WILL have more PACs and PVCs and SVT but I don't want to give one more second of my life to them!

Kudos to you hopes, we all sort of settle in with it once we do not die as we suspected. !!! so nice seeing you. i have been so busy this is my first post in several weeks. how was your christmas?  and OHHH  Happy New Year!!!

Wotan: Have you tried Betapace? I have A-fib, PSVTs, Cardiac Syndrome X, & PVCs. I felt like an old car constantly trying to start! After going on Betapace, they have decreased by about 80% - 90%. Still have occasional ones, but not bad & only for a couple of seconds.

I myself have just been diagnosed with svt after I had a massive attack which lasted 1 hour @ 230bpm before the doctors stopped it I too have been having it for years but would last for 5 mins at most and was told not too worry to much about it. but after that incident i have been told numerous ways to stop it now but havent had another yet so havent been abl to test these manouveres out of hospital.

I had my first SVT episode in October.  I was well over 200bmp for 30 minutes before I got to the ER.  It took two shots of whatever they give you to finally get it down.  They kept me for two nights, did an EKG and an Echocardiogram and diagnosed me with AVNRT.  I was told I could go on a beta blocker for the rest of my life to control the intensity of the attacks or I could have a catheter ablation.  Because I'd only had the one episode, I originally chose the medicine.  However, after having a few more minor episodes, I decided I didn't want to live like that.  The fear of having an episode and the paranoia were almost worse than the episodes themselves.  I had a catheter ablation on December 1st and have been episode free ever since.  The procedure was a breeze and I've felt great ever since.  I'm going tomorrow for my 6-week checkup and hopefully will be coming off the beta blockers for good.  I've found the beta blockers make me lazy and cause short term memory problems.  Can't wait to get off of them! 

I absolutely recommend the catheter ablation for those of who for whom it's an option.

I hear so many good things about ablations. Mine was the horror of my life! That is due to my major arrythmia occurs in the bundle of Hiss ... can't ablate this one w/o knocking out SA & AV nodes & left w/permenent pacemaker. This is not a pacemaker that acts as a backup in case my heart doesn't do right; it's a pacemaker that keeps me alive. I was informed that if I received a blow to the chest, I would die. NO THANK YOU... meds are better than worrying that my airbag in the car may kill me. I have PSVTs, PVCs, & A-Fib & still prefer that to the alternative. If my major arrythmia was locating elsewhere, I would go for the ablation. I guess what I'm saying is that before you go for an ablation, ask where the ablation is located & what entails to radicate it.
