Hello to you all! i am new to this :-) . Anyway i was diagnosed a year ago, oh that is the hole in my heart lol :-)  . Any way i think now it is looking like surgery..... i can't have a normal hole in the heart...... mine has to be in a place it normally isn't, apparantly!. Any one else out there who has a hole in the heart?  let me know cos' i don't know any one

Hi, I have a hole in my heart. Recent diagnosis too. ITs a PFO.

hi, how are you being treated if you don't mind me asking? and what is a PFO? I am awaiting my mri scan result to see what is going to happen....... thanks for answering

Hi dinby,  I am very sorry about your diagnosis, I know it can be difficult to come to terms with.  It is good that you have found Healing Well forum as this can be a great place for information and support.  So I do hope that you keep posting here.  Take care

hi, the thing is i don't know at the moment what i am dealing with. All i know it takes me longer to look after my horses lol confused Also i had my final scan last week and the had to get the the man from philips who make the mri to do my scan! now that scared me that the hospital couldn't do it and had to get someone else to do it. Oh and the nurse accidently told me that my scan was about a shunt! i think it would have been nice if some one had talked to me first nono They did ask if they could use my scan for training........so i have my uses tongue . I have recieved one reply from another with a hole in the heart, i have no idea if this is common or not for people over 30. Infact i don't know a lot really confused . Actually i was told one thing that normally if someone has a hole in the heart usually it is from front to back....... mine isn't it's from side to side...... mmmm i think that is right. sounds a bit like a dance to me, front to back and side to side lol yeah I can joke about it because then it makes it not so bad, and then it will not dominate my life, i will dominate it! This thing that is happening that makes me tired will have to live with me cos' i do not have the time for me to live with it! soooo it better get used to a fast acting life cos that is me, i don't have time to be ill. I know also a lot of people feel the same as me. Any way that is enough of me rabbiting on

Hey dinby, Well the first thing I would do is talk to your doctor about what the heck is going on and what your looking at here.  It isnt uncommon for the techs who perform the tests to be open about what they are doing but sometimes they dont have all the information before they speak...and this does cause undue anxiety for the patient.  A PFO can be repaired but it does depend on where it is located in the heart.  Often times someone can have a Septal Defect as I do  which isnt on the outside of the heart but on the inside between the right and left ventricles of the heart.  This septal defect is a "hole in my heart" approx. about the size of a penny and I have had it since birth.  My Cardiologist has said that for right now as long as I dont smoke, or take birth control pills there is no need to go in and close the hole.  Of course, I have alot of other health problems going on also...and I am 33 yrs old.

However, I dont blame you one bit for being upset as it does seem you were left out of the loop.  I would most certianly give your doc a call and find out what in the world is going on.  Please keep us up to date...Take care :-)

Thank you Elisha, I will i hope get the answers i need when i go to my next appointment. It doesn't sound so scary when you talk to others who have a simular thing. Thank you for replying and i will let you know the outcome of my next appointment....... take care
