Hi my first post and I am glad I found this site. I will be contacting a Gastro doc today about this. I really began to notice this in March as well. Everyday I have noticed that the stool is loose and yellow, bright yellow. Well these past few days I've increased my fiber intake and have also began eating white rice to "firm up" and that has helped. I also notice some undigested food in there as well and last night I ate a salad with my meal and well I saw that it was undigested today and separate from the yellow stool. I started taking Protonix 20mg the other day that my Doc prescribed for acid reflux although I haven't been tested for it. I have had a little pain below the middle of my rib cage and also some dull pain on the right side of my rib cage. I know I have gallstones but in the past they were silent. I also quit drinking about 5 1/2 yrs ago and at the time my liver enzymes were up but are almost normal now. Because I have undigested food in there and the other stuff is yellow do you think GERD would cause this? I'm just hoping it's not my liver but lettuce wouldn't travel through the liver. anyone, I'm a bit of a mess with this right now. I'm 45 male and also confined to a wheelchair due to a spinal injury.

Hi, welcome to HW :) To me that sounds more like it is your gallbladder. I don't know if it can related to GERD or not but it's good that you are contacting your GI about this. I haven't been diagnosed with any gallbladder issues but I do have times in which my stool is extremely yellow with right side pain. It only lasts a few days and I was told by someone that it sounds like my gallbladder or bile duct is spasming. Not quite sure what that means but I told my GI about it and he said just to keep an eye on it. As for the salad - that is not unusual for it to be seen in your stool but since you are having other issues then it sounds like something is going on. Let us know what your doc has to say ok?

Thanks for responding so quickly and I will let everyone know in case anyone is going through this. I did notice the yellow back in March when I was taking Levaquin for a touch of pneumonia I had and called the pharmacist to see if that was causing it but she said no so maybe it was just coincidence. I better write everything down though before calling because I know I'll forget something.

Well that's ok........I guess! :) Yes, please come back and tell us (me) what is going on. Because I have the same thing and it happens sporadically thru out a year.

I've also had Yellow stool for a few mo's now. I haven't had any pain to speak of, just some nausea and loss of appetite (much better now / not as bad as it was). I have had Upper Endoscopy and Blood tests and all are normal. Ultrasound came back clean. Next step is a HIDA scan on 5/14.

I've had yellow pale stools going on for 5 1/2 months. THEN...I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I have no idea why my stools are this color. It's making me nuts to not know. Then I think the worst. Thinking maybe liver bile ducts swollen? Anyone else with an idea?
Regarding the acid reflux: I had that for so many years with Gerd and getting worse. I'm not a doctor but I'm almost possitive that would not produce yellow stools. I actually spit up lime green bile. YUCKY! But don't take my word on it.

Hi there guys. I wanted to touch base with the yellow colored stool issues. Stool colors can vary, and can change due to a number of things, from what you eat, to medications you are taking, and of course due to different diseases and such. I would highly suggest if your stools are abnormal in any way to get to a doctor. There are so many different possibilities of what could cause it, I don't want to list them all. So please, do get follow ups on that. Wishing everyone all the best!
