Have you have any symptoms after quiting Nexium, Pentaloc or similar drugs ?

Hello everyone,
This is about my girlfriend...
about a month ago, she presented the following symptoms: Throwing the food right after or a few minutes after eating. Nothing would be hold on the stomach. After a few minutes a cough will arrive and from there to the bathroom and bye bye dinner, lunch, ice cream whatever... she made an appointment at the local clinic and a regular doctor (not a family doctor... they are pretty scarce these days in Canada) prescribed her Pentalec (I've been reading since then it's like nexium I think) for 4 weeks. I want to kick myself for not investigating this drug before she took it.. and for so long.
A week ago the Pentalec pills were gone. We were both happy since neither of us believe pills are a great thing... but one day after she stopped consuming this drug.... she developed something very similar to what I've been reading on this forum - GERD. I can't tell u people for sure, because after a week of exams, the doctors at the hospital still don't have a clue... the main problem? she does not feel any heartburning... but except by that she share mostly the same symptoms. Still the doctors.. won't believe us. The first one send her to a second one, the second one did blood and urine test. This one sent her to a gastroenterologist.. this guy did not take 5 minutes with her, just watch the camera and since he could not see anything send her to a neurologist who ofcourse could not say much but to send her back to ER where another moron (I'm sorry but it's very frustrating and I really get upset) prescribed her the same drug that we believed started the whole thing: Pentalec and send us home... like saying "you don't have anything don't come here to bug". He even told me "she does not have anything, we can't see anything, she can eat pretty much everything" we when back home feeling really bad, and hoping she would be able to eat something. We don't usually go to doctors, first because we don't like them and second because we don't trust them. Our last experience during this whole week confirms both hypothesis. Two days after and the symptoms are still worst, she can't eat, she can barely drink water and start coughing and runs out of air, like asthma kind of attack (my mom has asthma) and her heart goes to up to 100. She starts crying and I really don't know what to do... I've had heartburn, I know how it feels... and now it's coming back due to the impotence I feel... She cannot do pretty much anything since she can't eat.. she feels weak, and desperately anxious when she feels hungry and cannot eat anything or she tries and starts to cough and grasp for air. The weird thing is that she does not have the heartburn sensation. So far is taking her over an hour to finish a small ensure bottle... but we don't want her to take pentalec again and start a life dependency on that drug.. Has anyone have any symptoms, issues, problems after quitting any acid inhibitors drugs as Pentalec or Nexium? And if you have had.. did u find a way to resolve it?
I'm sorry to say I trust more personal histories on a forum than the organize doctors-Pharmaceutical alliance that prescribe a drug like Pentalec and others even without knowing which are the long term effects over 4 weeks... Thanks to everyone in advanced.

Thank you very much for the information provided.
Today we went to the Hospital to see an "ent".
Lucky enough to find out that "somehow" the ER department did not schedule an appointment
with the "ENT" office. That was the first exam / test, the second exam was a barium swallowing xray.
In this case we were lucky enough to find someone who really cares. Pretty rare these days.
This doctor did her test including solid (cookie) and liquid and she showed us later...
Basically there is nothing stuck, and the food is going into the right place.
Apparently there is no food or liquids going into the lungs or anything like that.
Everything goes to the stomach.
However she saw and u can see in the recording they did that the my girlfriend starts to choke
as soon as the cookie or the liquid are passing the throat, at the base of the tongue.
As per she there is some kind of sensibility or tiny injury to the laringx or throat.. that hasn't been detected yet. So this doctor went to the ENT department and talked to the doctor over there.
She got us an appointment for next Tuesday. So far no more medicaments have been prescribed.
Until then... my gf will be taking ensure and water... and hopefully some baby food...
she can't do much.. due to the inability to eat anything... she might faint at any moment.
