I can sympathize with you.  I had the same problem and still do even after surgery.  I asked the doctor to prescribe me sleep meds to help for the same reason.  He did without problem.  The biggest problem is trying to stop taking them and then you have to take more because they don't have as much effects as when you first take them.  You just have to wacth it.  I have been taking them for way to many years, but can't seem to sleep without them.  The other thing you should do is keep a large glass of water next to the bed so you can push down that lump once and awhile with the water.  Works, sometimes.  Talk to your doctor, hopefully he can help you.  Good luck.

Hi and welcome to Healingwell Rysesa :) Do you elevate the head of your mattress when you go to sleep? This can help with the lump feeling - btw, that is absolutely horrible isn't it??? I can't raise my mattress unfortunately since I have a waterbed but I have been thinking about the wedge pillow.

As for the sleeping pills, I have been on some form of sleeping pills for the past 6 years due to chronic insomnia. My insomnia isn't due to my acid reflux but some other issues. I tried Ambien, Ambien CR and found that I was doing strange things in my sleep and I didn't like that idea so I switched to Tylonel Simply Sleep. That is basically Benedryl without the antihistamine. But my words of advice is even though it says that it's not addicting, your body can become accustomed to it if taken for long periods of time. So I think occasional use of this should be fine. I've heard that happen to many people in which their sleep aids just stopped working. That is what happened to me too. I was on Ambien for almost a year but after 3 months of being on it, it didn't work for me so I had to stop for a couple weeks and start again. Worse couple weeks of my life though I tell ya! :)

Thanks cindy and sherry. I ordered the propuppillow from ARJmedical. It was their deluxe model at 170.00. Kinda expensine but if it helps it will be worth it. Does the lump in the throat feeling go away after being on the Nexium and elevating the body at night? If so how long does it take? thanks

Sherry,Ive been on Nexium for only 6 days. Ive had acid reflux symptoms for 8 months. Just went to doctor last week. When it first hit me I thought I had heart problems. Iwas having trouble breathing, Icould not get that deep breath. I went to my regular doctor and he did blood work ,ekg, lung test where you blow into some kind of tube. I told him I still felt like I was choking. He said it was just stress. So 8 months later I still had lump feeling
and trouble breathing. I made appt. with ENT doctor. He did nose scope and
said I had ARS. Tommorrow is cat scan of neck area(dont know what they are looking for) and then barrium swallow.

I know what you mean. I used to dread the nights. UPS just delievered the propuppillow. Will give it a try tonight. Instead of just trying to go to sleep and laying there for hours I read and it takes my mind off of it. Doesnt always work though.
