Thanks Sillylilly.... You're right, back then even the Nissen was rather rare and I practically had to beg for it. I had a wonderful surgeon- a Dr. Patterson in Toronto do it. It was open surgery and I had a second unrelated surgery in the same area 5 years ago and there was a lot of scar tissue even then. They tell me it would be impossible to do a Nissen laprascopically now. I'm told that it would be open and through my side- very open!
Therefore, I feel I really can't disregard the Esophyx if it accomplishes the same goals without open surgery. This is in spite of the fact that open surgery would be free for me (covered) and Esophyx (not) will be 16K or more. As you can see, I really would like to avoid open surgery again. I'm sorry to hear that there aren't a lot of success stories out there and I was hoping to hear some this way. As you say, it's possible the successful ones just go on about their business of living, like I did after my Nissen in '89.
Thanks for your advice about Hill procedure- I will get some info on it.
Anyway, thanks for caring.
