2nd hernia repair done with Esophyx- looking for feedback of any kind....

Hi all-

I'm new here but not to GERD. I received the Nissen repair in 1989. Was the best thing I ever did and was problem-free for 15 years. Ate and slept great. For the last 18 months, the problems are as bad if not worse. PPI's side-effects are worse than the solution so I stick to Tums and Zantac and am careful of what I eat.

I'm truly hoping that Esophyx can resolve my problem rather than surgery. If you have had it done, especially after a previous repair, I would love to hear about it. I truly appreciate this forum I have just discovered and will advise of whatever comes of this. It's nice to know I'm far from being alone.

Rbrunet....I think it's wonderful that your Nissen lasted 15 years and wonder why you wouldn't want to have it done again since it worked so well for you.  Did you have the open surgery or was it done lap...not sure if lap was available in 1989? 

My knowledge of the Esophyx is nill but I have talked to several people online who have had it and the failure rate is rather high...around 45%, of course, they don't tell you that.    I've never seen or heard of anyone posting a good result with the Esophyx.  But in general,  people who don't have problems don't usually post. 

Nine weeks ago, I had the Hill Posterior Gastropexy to cure my Gerd instead of the Nissen and I'm doing great.  It's another option for those who don't want the Nissen with far less side effects and recovery is much easier I think.  It depends on your condition but I do know that you can have the Hill even if you've had a prior Nissen.  It's only done in the northwest though which limits availability for some people.
