Gastroscopy (sp) without any anesthetic ugh !

yup today I went for gastroscopy without any anesthetic , why ?...well my choices were drive home or not drive home afterward .Of course I wouldn't be the first person to refuse but when I was told the drug tends to make you forget what happened and a little amnesia is what happens  along with up to 24 hours of groggie feeling and sleepiness along with feeling dopey I thought about it while other people in the room who just went through the gastroscopy were trying to convince me that it was probably a good idea and a smart thing to do ...well I decided that if I can't handle it then fine I'll take the drug . The doctor warned me that if I struggle or fight I will cause alot of self injury and then would have to go through surgery to repair the internal damage ...great ! I thought . I shouldn't have looked at the tube and camera because its thicker and bigger than what one would expect  . Everyone before and after me took the anesthetic , nobody else wanted to even attempt it all had the same fear that they have a lousy gag reflex... what a bunch of cowards .Well thats my story I hope it was entertaining and yes I had to really concentrate on ignoring the pressure it wasn't easy but I did it because being dozy and brain fried for up to 24 hours over a 10minute procedure just seemed silly to me although I don't think I would want to go through that too often .

no unfortunately not , any information they gave me was vague I did okay I know you are not supposed to feel the tissue samples they take but I felt them too . It was a little hard concentrating and I had to be reminded to breathe through my nose a few times . I felt like a hostage and forcing myself to relax was all based on, if they don't panic then neither should I afterall I want to drive home so put up with it... ugh . I was out of there less than 5 minutes after it was all over .The rest of the patients laid there stupified .

oi ! it tickled ? I didn't find it horrible but there wasn't anything nice about it now if I could do open heart surgery without anesthetic I'd be completely anesthetic free . I would rather avoid anesthetic at every possible turn because in june I went for nose surgery and when I woke up I seemed fine but horribly groggie the next day we had to stop in every town on the way back to use the latrene ugh! then within several days I ended up in hospital for two days with a pulse of 30 and BP of 90 over 60 .I am one of those people who just can't shake the anesthetic out of my system . I don't know what I'm going to do if I ever need surgery again .I'm terrified that I won't wake up.

I'm going to have to ask my doctor again what was used , he said epinephrine but I or he must have misunderstood I don't think it is even an anesthetic .

btw I don't like internists they remind me of the old saying too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth .They can do quite a bit more harm than good .
