I would love to hear from you how your doing. I know the members would like to read updates too.  Post a note or two so we can keep track of you.

I have been having an increase in the regurge and last night was the worse as my throat was on fire.

I am on Prilosec.  Guess it is time to see my GI and talk it over with her.

Hi stkitt.I"ve had GERD for about 14 years. Started with Prilosec and am now on Nexium,Pepcid and Mylanta.I"ve had 2 EGDs, the most recent one a few months ago.No Barretts yet. I"m focusing harder on my diet.This is a great forum.Nice to know I"m not alone. Carol

Hello. I was off PPIs for over 2 yrs and now I'm back to Prilosec. I hope I don't have to use it for a long time like the last time. I was doing so great until I had a baby and I was so stressed with her and also with finances. I believe there's a correlation with the use of painkillers and GERD. The first time I had it, I had been taking Vioxx for 3 yrs for fibromyalgia. Once again I was on a lot of painkillers after the baby was born thru c-section, I started refluxing again. I have been able to control it with an occasional Zantac.

Skitt- I'm so sorry to hear of your regurgating problems. I can say I truely don't miss that at all it's icky yucky kaakaa LOL

I hope all goes well with the GI doc and she can get you some relief.

I'm 1 week out of my second Nissen Lap and plugging away at it. I had a big hernia that was behind my heart and was very dificult for my doctor to get at but after 8 hours of surgery she said it went well. I have extreme shoulder and neck pain to go along with all the other aches and pains smhair

Thank goodness for pain meds, anti nausea meds, and thick nutritional drinks !

Hello all,

I'm just playing the waiting game. I sure hope Feb. 10th hurries up. As much as I hate some of the tests, especially the manometry and wired Ph study that I have to do again, I'm anxious to get answers. I was pleasantly surprised of the professionalism and knowledge of the medical staff at Loyola University. Having never been to a teaching hospital before I was a little apprehensive at first. After only one visit though I feel very comfortable with them. I guess it helps they were recommended by the only doctor/surgeon I've been totally trusting of.

Lots of reflux going on here too.  My doctor said it is probably related to the holidays:  eating changes during holidays and holidays add stress:  perfect combination for Reflux.

I don't know if I have "real" gerd - I started with warm/empty feeling in my abdomen last October shortly before I had my gallstone filled gallbladder removed and emergency ECRP at the same time for stone in common duct. Afterwards the burning continued and has gotten better/worse over the past few months. Dr said it's GERD and I've been on Pepcid, Prilosec, Prevacid, sucralfate, reglan and just started Aciphex today (the others either didn't work or worked a little). Now I am to have a second ECRP for possible missed stones, burning is getting worse and I'm confused and depressed. Dr. office isn't open til Monday - Last night was the first night I couldn't sleep - burning in chest, abdomen kept waking me up. I hope the Aciphex helps. Dr said if they find no stones they will look at this as acid reflux and go from there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ailie, I am sorry you not doing well, lets hope the new medication works. Try to watch what you eat.  I never eat after 8 PM.  I also sleep on 2 pillows when I get the burning in the middle of the night.

I am doing well, I am back working so on those days I do not drink as much caffeine...........therefore less heartburn. devil

I switched back to Prilosec 2 days ago. Today breakfast was good, lunch...not so much! I had a very stressful incident with my sons school and I took him out for lunch. I ate some grilled shrimp, rice and cinnimon apples with a diet coke. Burning started about an hour or so after that. I think I may have eaten too much and there was too much butter in the rice. I feel crappy right now. I have to learn to stop eating right before I'm full I guess. I was distracted by trying to talk to my son and didn' realize how fast I was eating. Hopefully this will go away in a few hours.

OK,

Started on tegretol for my dystonia. The liquid form,  has been aggravating my GERD big time. I may be taking it too close to bed time.( though I need it to sleep )  I'm going to experiment with an evening echedule, or possibly take it with lots of fluids. Yogurt is now on my "Do not even THINK of eating list"  go figure. Back on antibiotics for yet another UTI. Cipro this time.  No explanation from the Urologist  on why the sudden rash of these. ( 3 severe infections in three months)

I was doing really well until yesterday, I started taking some antibiotics.  They were huge!  I had a 75 mg Zantac at bedtime and I refluxed pretty bad last night.   I don't feel heartburn but I feel it in my throat and sometimes my chest will start hurting too.   I have not had pop in a while, no caffeine either.  I end my day w/ a cup of chamomile tea.

Good and bad days.Still on Nexium,Pepcid,Mylanta and licorace.Added "Heartburn Free" two days ago and added ginger today. Carol

Thanks for the updates and I know the members are reading to see how everyone is doing.

My anxiety kicked in today and that often causes my stomach to act up a bit.............but I took Mylanta  after drinking a diet coke that caused immediate heartburn and the Mylanta helped.

The Prilosec is still once daily and I do not want to go back to twice daily.

It's so hard to stay away from pop! I always crave for it. I of course get heartburn when I drink it usually hours later. But it's just so good, some foods u just gotta have a pepsi or a coke! :-)

Feeling much better today!! I went to physical therapy on Saturday and had a consult with the chiropractor in the office. He did a slight adjustment on my back and nexk...what a difference that made! I've decided to see him once a week in addition to the PT. He told me to only wean off one med at a time. Changing from the Nexium to the Prilosec was hard for a fewe days but I think I'm over the rebound effect. I was able to get up early and do a light workout this morning!!! I feel like I'm making progress, mentally nad physically...finally!

P-Fit, I see that you are on fish oil. Does it help your reflux? Carol
