i am new here. i have barrets esophagus. my question is, has anyone been cured of barrets? it's been two years since i was diagnosed. the follow up endioscope (after one year) showed no betterr, no worse, so now i am waiting another two years to have my next check up. i don't feel any burning of acid reflux, but i have a constant sore throat and feel nauseous in my throat most of the time. i was taking ppi pills, but all of the ones i tried made me feel worse than not taking them, so i quit taking them. i am trying to stick with the diet the gi recommended. i usually feel better lying down than i do standing up.

 I'm new too, but I dont know whats exactly wrong yet.  Ive had GERD for some time with midsection sternum area pain, and I have to go for an endoscopy. Im hoping its not Barrett's. What were your symptoms? Pain? Indigestion?  Any help appreciated.

the only symptoms i had prior to the endoscopy was the constant sore throat and the nauseous feeling (in my throat). i didn't have any pain in my stomach or chest. i went to a gp about the symptoms and he said there was nothing outwardly wrong and suggested an ent. the ent said my throat was fine and that i should try a gi. this is where i found out i had barretts. the gi told me what foods to avoid ( all of which i was pretty much living on). he also had me take ppi pills, which in my op i mentioned the side effects had me pretty miserable. good luck with your procedure.

I never had sore throat or nausea, just indigestion and the sternum pain that goes thru to my back. Its not cardio because I had that all checked. Im back to taking Prevacid and like you, Im watching my diet, staying pretty bland, no fats, spices, acidic foods etc.  Like you I was eating too much of those. Im even trying Activia yogurt, although I think thats more for irregularity.  I hope you find something that helps you. Nausea really flattens you and its certainly the hard way to lose weight.  I lost a few pounds just the past few days from the diet change.  Keep in touch.  I dont know much about Barrett's cure, but at least yours hasnt gotten any worse.  I personally think anything is possible. Im even looking into yoga or qigong for relaxation.

Last endoscopy a few years ago showed inflammation and prevacid was prescribed, have to go back 4/3 to GI Dr. Pain is the same though I know there could be other causes.  I wont know til next endo is done, but cant help my mind from wandering too far ahead.

I was diagnosed with Barretts 4 years ago; my only symptoms were nausea and a sour taste in my mouth all the time.   I was told I must have had "silent GERD" for a long time.  I'm now on Protonix, but still have a sour taste in my mouth alot of the time.

I have been scoped 4 times since I was diagnosed and 2 showed Barretts and 2 didn't.  My doctor explained that it really depends on where the biopsies are taken, my area was fairly small so if they didn't biopsy that area, it didn't show up.

There is a procedure you can have done to burn the Barretts off.  I think it's the Barrx procedure, or something like that. I actually spoke to a Dr. about it last year, but I had alot of other gastro issues, so decided to take care of them first and then look into this further.
