today i ate a hamburger on white bread minus the crust.Actually, I made a bread bun to fit perfectly.I did however have to soak the bread with ketchup out of fear.Nothing has gotten stuck but I would rather moisten everything.I also ate potato salad.I chopped it up a little when it was on my plate. I nursed a can of pepsi for 3hours.I cant believe I am not chuggin them down. I am glad I had the nissan becuz if not i wouldve need some A & E pepsi intervention .IV drip withdrawals of pepsi.lol

Oka Guys,

I definistely over ate.I pushed just 1 more piece of chicken kabobs at my brothers house 2day. I had one bubba burger with white bread minus the crust,my favorite,potato salad and one chicken kabob minus the garnishment. 2 cups of cherry juice and a half can of pepsi. My wrap let me know,this is a no no.I am very tender there. The worst part is yet to come. I may blow my husband out the bed to IRAQ. I pray for forgiveness ****.I do no I will sleep in a coma 2nite with drool in my ears lol

Hi Guys,

 2day i had a half bowl of raisin bran with a half cup of milk. I had a peroigie with 1 breakfast sausage for lunch. This evening , I ate a few pieces of grilled chicken.I chewed it till it was rubbish in my mouth.LOL .I am still nursing one pepsi per day besides lots of water.

I just purchased neosporin with pain reliever for my belly button. I guess the belly button infection is minor compared to all the problems ppl seem to have with their wrap. I can say I thank my surgeon for being ontop of his game. He was an advanced lap and general surgeon. He did and excellent job. I think I have an infection from takin 20,000000000000 showers.

Anyway, thats my update for today.

I am going to a "Spring fling party" here in Staten Island. My husband is giving it for all the 1199 health and hospital workers. I have made 22 trays of food and I am pooped out. I still have 3 more trays tomorrow and I am done. So I am signing off

Wow, Bea! Trays of food...are you really up to that much? You're a trooper, that's for sure. Have fun at the spring fling! Hope the weather cooperates.

Wow....how long did that take to put together. I know the few trays we put together for my son's cookout took a couple hours. We only put together 4. 2 were vegetable and 2 were meats. Please be careful and try not to over do it. You are still doing a lot of healing. I hope you have a great time. It looks really nice outside this morning. Sure wish I could go for stroll out there. I asked the other day and they said nope.

 It took me 2days literally.Because I cannot lift my trays and stand long periods of time (Thanx to the infection) It took 2 long days. I made everything . Its funny, when I was the unwrapped individual. I would put some of this, put some of that all on a plate.Now when I see food. I have to pick which is my favorite. I know I am very limited. I definitely will not hog out like I did on Memorial day. I never wanna feel like that again.

Bill, I would tell you everything I made but I dont wanna disrespect you since you are not eating. You wouldnt even believe how much love I put into these trays.lol Its funny, I have always cooked for everyones anything .I would tell my kids Food Is love. I cooked with love, im feeding you with love, Food is love. And here I am to testify, That shi* can kill you.lol

Anyway I wanna go take a nap, then get my nails done for tonight. It will be long nite for me. I hope I can last 9pm-2pm.Thank god when you rent the hall they have someone to clean up after because I would just drop dead if I had to clean up 2. I am not serving anyone. I will literally listen to the deejay and sit on my as*.Im done.

Hi Ashleigh,
So sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I had the surgery about 3 months ago. I didn't experience what you're describing, but I'm wondering if your eating is giving you problems due to normal swelling of your wrap.

My surgeon informed me that during the first two weeks of recovery, my wrap would become progressively more swollen, and my swallowing would get more difficult. That did happen to me. I would get spasms with swallowing, and my mouth made lots of saliva that I didn't want to swallow.

It is very normal to have some swallowing problems at first. I don't think you're probably vomiting...just kind of coughing up the food that you're having difficulty swallowing (kind of like a "hairball" that a cat coughs up).

Often people find that a hot beverage, like tea, helps to get the esophagus to relax and makes the swallowing go better.
Try to relax and not worry. You'll get through this, and move on to eating normally again.

It's also very normal to feel full very quickly, due to swelling of your stomach. This will also resolve.
You're probably "constipated" because you're eating very little, and don't need to go to the bathroom much.

The gas they pump into you takes some time to go away. I found walking really helped it. I have a treadmill, and started getting on and walking slowly by the second week. If you don't have that, you can walk around the house, or go outside for a walk.

The reason you could eat better the first few days was that the swelling hadn't started yet. Once the swelling started, it caused your eating problems. The swelling will begin to go down now that you're past the first two weeks, so don't panic.

Panic and worry are your worst enemies when you're dealing with your recovery. Calm down, relax, and surrender to your recovery. You can't rush it, and you have to just let it happen.

And Ashley...it will happen. Your swallowing will improve, your gas pains will go away.

You'll get lots of support and help here.

Thank you soooo much. Did I mention that I was up and walking the day after my dismissal? And eating out in a restaurant as they told me I could do. After I began the vomiting and terrible back pain, I was told to always puree. The biggest problem is drinking fluids.
Did I mention that we drove home over the past 3 days? I got out and walked every hour. 1200 long miles...on the second day I could only ride about 200 miles as I was sooo exhausted. I slept for ten hours. I am still using the inspirator device as my lungs are damaged from the years of acid reflux and I already had atelectesis, asthma, etc. I am told these issues will take months to resolve.
Why don't they tell you about these issues before the surgery? LOL. Who would do it then?

Hi Ashleigh,
I don't have much time to reply, since I'm off to work in a minute. Just wanted to check in. It sounds like you overdid it with the long trip and restaurant visits so soon after your surgery. Hopefully the surgeon warned you to chew your food to liquid and take small bites.

I'm still suspicious as to whether you're actually throwing up from your stomach, or just the contents of your esophagus. When it meets the resistance of your swollen wrap and gets backed up, you want to get rid of it. I'm not there with you, so I don't know...just wondering.

Please relax. A swollen wrap at 2 weeks is totally normal. My eating got much more difficult at the two week mark, and took some time to improve again. You will get past this.

It is common to have swallowing problems so soon post op. I've read many posts about people who had great difficulty eating at the start. In fact, I often wondered upon hearing their stories, if they'd ever swallow properly again, since I didn't experience so many problems. However, lo and behold, they're eating everything they want a month or so later!

I'm sure you're in contact with your doctor. Do you have a local GI doctor who is looking after you as well? Don't panic. That's the worst thing you can do. Your mind can make your problem worse than it is, as a lot of nausea, etc. can be mind-based.

Breathe slowly, relax into your recovery, trust that your body will heal. You can do this!
