I am new to this and I cannot believe how horribly sick I feel. I am totally incapacitated. I am waiting for the PPI (Prevacid this time) to work. I have terrible heartburn, nausea and indigestion. No reflux into the throat though. I feel like I am going to vomit  sometimes. My husband can't believe I am so sick. Took some Gaviscon during the night about every two hours and that made my stomach feel much better and I couild finally relax and sleep some. My anxiety level is high especially at night. Anyway, has anyone else felt like this and is this normal? Thanks.

Perfectly normal to feel anxious with these symptons. The PPI, can take a while to work. If it doesnt, go back to your doctor, and they will give you another medication, or look for some other thing you may have, that will be treatable.

Stomach-gerd issues, can hurt very bad, make you feel really really sick, this is normal

HELLO, YES VERY NORMAL..THE MEDS MIGHT TAKE A BIT TO WORK.. I HAD TO HAVE MEDS CHANGED A FEW TIMES ALREADY..STILL FEELING SICK TO MY STOMACH...IT MIGHT TAKE AWHILE UNTIL YOU FIND THE RIGHT MEDICATION THAT WORKS FOR YOU... TRY TO RELAX... I KNOW ITS HARD AS MY ANIEXTY LEVELS ARE VERY HIGH... PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON HOW YOUR FEELING... BUT ALL IN ALL...ITS VERY NORMAL...WISHING YOU THE BEST

Thank you for the reassurance. I have much trouble sleeping at night ( days too!) I tried everything except sleeping pills, meditation, relaxation techniques, reading etc. I think I would feel much better if I got a good nights sleep, Anyone ever use Tylenol PM or simila?

I've tried tylenol PM and benadryl from time to time because i cna never seem to get an uninterrupted sleep. Sometimes im out in 30 mins, sometimes im not. The one thing i can say though is i wake up feeling so groggy for like the first 2-3 hours of the morning.

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems with your reflux and stomach symptoms. It's very common for the medication to take some time for peak performance, so you'll need to be patient.

There's another thing that you need to consider--the acid has already done some burning/damage to tissue, and that will take some time to heal. Even without acid (being suppressed by your PPI), the tissue will need to repair itself, and that takes time.

Whenever I had a GERD/stomach flare-up, it would take months to resolve (even though I was already on a PPI). That tissue is very sensitive, and takes time to heal. (I've found the same is true with lung tissue.)

It's important to be very careful with what you eat--nothing acidic, spicy, or rough (like popcorn). Remember to avoid traditional triggers like caffeine, chocolate, peppermint, alcohol, fried foods--and find which comfort foods you can manage. Eat small meals, and maintain this careful eating for a LONG TIME.

It's hard to wait...you'll be wanting to go back to your normal foods...but it's important to continue to be careful for about 2 weeks after you stomach feels all better--then introduce foods back into your diet one at a time.

I could always tell when I'd moved too soon, because my symptoms would get worse right away.

I don't know if these comments resonate with your experience, but they're what I lived with before having the surgery. If you have any additional questions, just let me know, and I'll try to answer what I can.

(I'm assuming that you've raised the head of your bed. It's likely that the anxiety you're feeling is adding to your sleeplessness. Again, sorry you're having so many problems! We're all here to support you through this challenge. Take care.)

Thanks everyone, It is still hard for both me and my family to think that this would make me so sick. But there is
a pattern. I am usually not too bad during the night but when I get up I am totally nauseated-morning sickenss supreme. It fades about 10 AM and then I get heartburn and take some Gaviscon. Usually by mid-afternoon I feel half way human and can do a few things around the house. I take the Prevacid 1/2 hour before breakfast. I have been having a bowl of cereal for breakfast, toast mid-morning and a very light lunch and supper. Have lost 10 lbs with this is a month.

Anyone else have a problem with "morning sickness" or sugesstions on how to avoid it?

If you can, elevate your head and shoulders at night. It may help you with the acid at night and perhaps you can sleep better.

Did your doctor scope you to see whats going on in your belly? I was having the same symptoms as you..doc put me on Librax for the spasms in my stomach and for anxiety. Anxiety is gone. I take it at night only because it makes you tired. I also just started nexium for a hiatal hernia...waiting to see how that works. Good Luck

You can try medication for nausea. With many other illnesses people are on that medication, especially people with chemo. I am on that medication and it helps me a lot. This will help to speed up elimenation of your food that may stay too long in your stomach. I am not a doctor but am talking from my own experience.

I am with U, acid reflux, and sinusitis, bloating. Sleepless nights, stomach issues, Gavison, Zantac, tums, can't eat dinner, nausea, DEPRESSED sad shakehead

REcent CT of abdomin, chest to pelvis, endoscopy 9slight red stomach lining), chronic sinusitis, and bloating, over all exhaustion due to lack of sleep (on slepp meds) but still awake, I am 55, can't eat, sleep, haven't had one good day in years TIRED
