about 4 yrs ago, I went to my ENT Dr....w "hoarseness"...no cold or sore throat.
He put that scope down my throat...told me to make sounds w my voice & said..i had..."unilateral vocal cord paresis" ! One of my vocal cords was not closing properly...not "paralyzed"...but weakened!
He wanted me to get a CT Scan..with dye...to rule out polyps.
The CT scan...was very thorough! My head..neck..nose....throat..lungs.
The results were "negative"...no polyps or growths.
He said this is not uncommon....."unilateral IDIOPATHIC Vocal cord paresis".
"Idiopathic"...of course meaning....the cause not known..(Could be from "trauma"....viral)- But..told me not to worry.
I see him...from time to time.......for other things (Sinus...cough...GERD)---
Anyway---I have gotten recurences of this problem...from time to time.
It's more annoying than anything--lasts 2 or 3 days...just SLIGHT hoarseness....but..it still worries me..(My wife works at the Hospital..in Medical Records...told me Dr. took appropriate tests...& not to worry)-- I do "searches on internet...& it seems that this condition with NO apparent cause..is NOT uncommon.
Anyway---just wanna share & ask....if ANYONE ELSE...here on HW....has this "Vocal Cord Paresis"......w no known cause! IF so--PLEASE...post & let me know....I'd feel better..just being able to communicate...to someone else who has this condition- Thanks--Hoping to hear! (I did not know..where else to post this--but i figured....it was the "closest"..forum--
Thanks...to all for reading this....& I HOPE at least 1 or 2 respond--Regards--Robert
