Finally got a date for my Lap. Niss. Fund surgery!!

I have had orders for surgery from my specialist for allmost 2 months now. He referred me to a surgeon but he didnt have the experienced that I expected and after reading about the bad side of this surgery I wasnt about to take a chance.

It took me a while to find an experienced doctor and then I was referred to a doctor who is a pioneer in the Lap. surgery field. He is a professor of surgery and Chief of Minamally Inasive Surgery at the University of Southern California, and has been practicing since the 80s. He is highly accredited and recognized world wide as well. I met with him on Thrusday and he assured me that he will try and "fix me" smilewinkgrin . Funny because he asked me what I did for a living and when I told him that I'm an electrician he said that he needed to fix me fast because he needed some work done at his house. scool  

I see light at the end of the tunnel and my spirits are as high as they have been since January.

My surgery date is on the 10th of August. I thought I would be nervous but I'm just reliefed to know that I will get my life back, be able to get back to work, and be able to enjoy my kids, hopefully, before the holidays. Most of all, I cant wait to sleep on my stomach!! Havent done that in over 6 months.

That's great news. USC is a very good place to have this surgery done. My surgeon trained there. Good luck and keep us updated when you can.

I know how you feel. That's exactly how I felt when I finally decided to have the surgery. It's a long road to make the decision. It's not a perfect surgery, but it sure beats the alternative. I'm very happy that I had it done. My asthma has been the best it has been in years.

It sounds like you've done all the right things and have selected a great doctor! As we've all said here, it's the most important step you can take. Good job!

Hey there,  I am glad to hear you have a date for your Lap on August 10th.

I think I  will start you a thread of your own so you can have your own special place to talk about your issues, pre-op, and post op.

It is a great way to journal your experience.  Look for you own thread as it will have your name in it.

We have a great group of members who will cheer you on.

You're having the Nissen surgery? How did you know you needed it? What symptoms/what led up to this point? I've been on Nexium for 9 yrs. & want to get off, but I'm VERY afraid of the TERRIBLE acid & phlegm & burning & feeling like my stomach is turning inside out! I also have a hiatal hernia (sm).

Rafael,

Please make sure that this surgeon plans to do a loose wrap. Almost all problems from this type of surgery is caused by the wrap being too tight. I am sure that is what they plan but I would ask up front and insist that it be a loose wrap.

I am right behind you mine is on the 19th have allmy preops on the 11th. We will help each other through the process with guidance and support from the other great people onthis forum.
