enlarged esophagus

 I am new to the board.

  My esophagus is man made. I was born with a rare birth defect in 1975 ( it was rare back then ). Anyway they took part of my large intestines and man made my esophagus. I just recently had a ct  scan which showed the lower part of my esophagus was enlarged. 

 I have tried to look up information on this on the net but had no luck. I found where people could have theirs enlarged but nothing on why it would get enlarged on its own.

My regular doctor is in the process now of setting me up a appointment with a specialists to run the light down my throat to check it more in-depth.  She did say it could be where they did the surgery could caused it to be bigger. I hope thats all it is. But I have had the sans done before and they never said it was enlarged before.

You would think after 13 operations to fix it when i was a baby  I wouldnt be scared, but I am terrified now. I do have acid reflux and im just getting over pneumonia.

I have so many questions I really dont know where to start or where to post them to be honest.

Please don't stress over this. It's such a blessing that when you were a baby they were able to fix your defect, and that fix lasted 24 years! I'm sure you have some very skilled physicians working on your case, and they'll figure out just how to help you. Surgery is not nearly as horrible as you're imagining. I had surgery in February, and was very surprised at how easy the recovery was.

I wonder if your GERD is related to your lung problems. (I had uncontrolled asthma caused by my GERD, and had a lung infection that I was recovering from before, during, and after surgery I had to repair the problem. Fortunately, the surgery worked, and my lungs are much improved.)

It's unlikely that you'll find any members here who have experience with your specific problem, but you will find members who will support and encourage you as you work through your issues. Stay here, and we'll be your cheering squad!
