I too will be offering thanks for all the good in my life, my children and my husband, my health and my friends and a special thanks for having had the opportunity to make so many wonderful friends here in the GERD/Heartburn Forum.

The year has turned its circle,

Howdy Y'all,
I want to add mine also. First off I am so very thankful for my friends here on HW. With them I would have surely went stir crazy more than once.Most of you know what I am talking about. Too many long days and nights at the hospitals. Thank you everyine who talked me through those rough times. You all mean more to me than you can ever imagine!
I am thankful there are some "lost soles" who have found their way to us for guidance and lets do our very best to help them all we can in their tough times. My name recognition is failing me lately with the new meds, but I am thinking of all of you even if I forget to name everyone. I promise I am. Some time you will hear that faint little chime or musical note and not know where it came from.... that's me thinking of you! I love to relieve my stress with my guitar playing and it keeps me sane. I think my new co workers may think I am over the edge due to my whistling and singing at work.I have decided that as I get older I don't care if I can hold a tune or not, I like to sing and it makes me feel better instantly. So those of you who like to sing, but are afraid of what someone might say.... Don't worry about it...Just sing!

I am also thankful this thread got started. I know there are more people with things they are thankful for but won't break free and post them here. I sure wish they would, but if it's not their thing we all understand. I have really opened up more since joining this sight. I no longer have to think about something for days before I post a reply. I just let it go. Probably a good thing to practice in life in general. With all the "PC" stuff nowadays. I remember talking to the old timers as a kid and they sure didn't mind letting you know what was on there mind. Didn't care who heard either. Sure wish we could get back to a simpler time in life. Let the kids play and entertain us adults with the playing and help us to remember what it was like to be young. Whatever happened to a bunch of kids spinning in the yard and the last one able to stand up one? Hey, lets do that again bet I can beat you this time!

I really long for a much simpler time from my child hood. A friend of my daughter's parents actually told her My wife and I must not care for our kids because we let her go to the movies with her boyfriend in a Saturday afternoon. Se is almost 15 and was going to a 4:30 pm show with him and her friend. Oh Boy! since I allowed that I am somehow a bad parent that doesn't love my child. I have trust in the way I raised my children and until they do something to break that trust I will continue to trust them. My daughter's friend's mother doesn't trust her daughter and says she is ALWAYS Lying to them about anything. Seems she got all A's in H/S and exspects her daughter to also. Since she wants this to happen she wouldn't allow her daughter to take the college prep classes, only the average classes in H/S. She is afraid she wouldn't get all A's. Now she has gotten a couple B's and her mom freaked out. Grounded her for 2 months. I realize everyone has their own ideas about raising children, but not allowing her to take a college prep class she qualifies for because she might not get all A's seems strange to me. I say let them take the hardest classes THEY want to and let them do their best. If their best is a B, C or whatever. Praise them and help them more. I don't know, maybe I am a bad parent and the fact that my kids have been told numerous times how well behaved they are is just a fluke. Sorry this beautiful post turned into a rant.
Anne, I appologize. I hope everything goes great for you and your family this week and weekend. You have love to spread around here and I for one really appreciate it very much. Keep us in line there Lady!

Thaksgiving was a good time for me this year. My oldest sister died 2 years ago on Thanksgiving Day and then on April 30th this year I lost my other sister but I was able to celebrate their lives and enjoy being with my family on this special day.


I have so many of you to thank here for helping me through the many rough times so please do celebrate the good times with me too.



Barb, thank you...............your words were sweet and Anne this is a great thread. Bill you are terrific. res0kkw, we love having a new member join us and celebrate with us and Joy, thank you for covering the forum so nicely.

PS--allowing your fifteen year old to go to the movies is PERFECTLY fine. Good grief. It's 2009, and 15 is a reasonable age to start some dating. A movie at the mall? Nothing out of the norm there.

Hi Bill, sorry to hear about those awful cramps coming back. Can't you take something like potassium pills or eat some bananas, prunes or potatoes to help with that issue. Drinking lots of water helps too. I agree with Denise and Joy on the dating thing. Well I am off to bed before I fall asleep at the computer. And as you know that has happened in the past. Hope you have a good night and get some sleep. Barb

Bill if you can eat prunes they have alot more pottasium and once I started eating them gain the cramps went away. How can you drink too much water unless your kidneys are bad or you have swelling I can see it hurting you. I was told by my doctor to make sure that I drink more water for the cramps. Try at least 8 glasses a day to start out. There is some formula you can figure out how many ounces you are supposed to drink aday by how much you weigh. You could probably find it on the web. I got rid of the cramps and now have a itchy red rash on my legs. It's been there 2 weeks and getting worse. I suspect it might be and allergy to my new laundry soap. I don't get paid for 2 more days so have to where the clothes washed in it until then. I'm going to where dresses I think the next 2 days since they aren't washed in that stuff. Well am going to go take a bath and try a bath oil to see if that helps. Have a good night and try some prunes and maganesium pills if your doc oks it. I have been so busy at work the last 2 days I am all tired out. Have a good night. Barb

Barb, sorry to hear you have a rash but wondering why it is just on your legs if it may be from laundry soap? I found tea tree oil was helpful when I had a itchy rash from a allergic reaction to a medication.



Bill, hope your week is going better and your day at work yesterday was not so exhausting for you. I know it must be very painful to do the heavy work when you are having back pain.



Also are you on a Rx Potassium supplement such as K-dur, or K-lor ? You may want to ask your physician re this to boost your potassium.



Anne, I am sure this is a bittersweet time of year for you with the loss of your Mother and now the Holidays. Try to remember all the good times you had with your Mother and keep her with you in your heart as you go into the Holiday Season. Blessings to you.



As for me, I am working today and tommorow. I find I am really tired by the end of the day. Tomorrow is a challenging day for me but with a good attitude and staying in the moment I plan on making it as good as it can be.

Bill that is true if you drink water in excess, but at least 8 glasses a day is considered a good thing for your body because it does need water to function properly. I drink about 12 8 oz glasses a day sometimes a bit less. I drink alot when I eat so that makes me drink a bit more than the average person. I remembered you saying something about the bathroom thing before so wasn't sure prunes would be the best for you any way. You must be off today. I'm on my lunch and it's only 32 out so skipped a walk today. I don't like the cold.

Kitt, for some reason my legs seem to be the first thing affected by any allergies in recent years. Not sure why. Since I developed a allergy to adhesives my legs are the place that gets worse the fastest from it. My arms itch some but not really red yet like my legs. the one leg is worse than the other. It seems better today though I think because I wore a pair of PJs last night that had not been washed in the new detergent yet. I am trying different things on the rash. some natural stuff and have tried hydrocortizone cream too. I am currently trying a prescription I have for exema on my scalp and it hasn't itched all morning. The welts look a bit smaller too. I can't wait to get some of my old detergent when I get paid and wash my pants especially in it. I'll have to get some of the tea tree oil to try too. I would rather try natural stuff  when ever possible. If that doesn't help will have to go see the doctor again. I really don't want too though. I have had way more than my fill this year of doctors. But at least it's not for my breathing any more. That is a huge relief to have that under control.

Anne, I know it will be hard with out your mom this year but try to think of the happy times you had with her. I lost my mom the day after thanksgiving in 81 so know how hard the first year is. I will be missing my friend this year. I have already thought about him alot. this was his favorite time of year and we always had fun together. But I just keep thinking of all the fun we had together and I am just so thankful that I am still around this year to enjoy it after all I went through. Take care and hang in there. Joy I have heard that song. I've seen the movie too. The movie always makes me cry and the song brings tears to my eyes. I think Reba sings that one. I have it on one of my Christmas CD's. You are very blessed to still have your mom. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season with her. I am off to make dinner. Barb
