Mookie,
I can only tell you how I felt. My problem was a cough. The cough became so severe that my blood pressure went out the roof. I couldn't sleep and that made things worse. My Gi dr wasn't sure that reflux was the cause because I didn't have heartburn. After visit with lung dr and ok there, my gi sent me for all the tests and the 24ph test showed that I had reflux and when I coughed it was after reflux. It also ended up that I had a hiatial hernia.
After surgery, I felt fine except the usual from all the drugs. The worst part was when the theripist came to make me cough.
The first day was a little rough but not bad at all. I followed all the rules as far as eating only a 1/2 cup at a time and every 2 hours. Ate only things on the liquid list (didn't have to stay on clear liquid after I left the hospital. Ate lots of oatmeal so that I didn't get hungry and over eat. When I went back to surgeon for the follow-up he told me I could eat anything but maybe steak and bread for awhile. He told me I could eat anything that was like baby food. He was suprised that I never felt like anything was stuck in my throat, but I think that is because I ate very slow and only what I should. Others have had lots of problems but I think that if you don't wait too long to have the surgery and your surgeon has done tons of these you will have no problem. Mine did a loose wrap and I can burp. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I even had mashed potatoes and that tasted so good. Also had potato soup that I blended. Stay away from tomatoes and anything acid for awhile.
Hope this helps some.
