Joy- have you tried to change what you are eating when the urge hits? I used to do the same and made sure I had foods around that I could get away with that. Like carrots or something, even popcorn can work if it isn't loaded.

Denise, It's good to have you posting again. I hated doing evals in the Navy, good luck with yours.

We decided to get a 3 foot potted spruce Christmas tree instead of flowers for the funeral. We are going to decorate it and make sure it goes to her Mom and Dad. When the weather breaks we are going to plant it and then we can decorate it every year. I have a big rock I am going to clean up and paint her information on and place it by the tree after we plant it.

Thank you very much for the kind gesture. As you can see I didn't manage to stay asleep. The slightest little thing wakes me now. I am from a small town too, and once the word gets out about the tree I am sure there will be more people besides my family who will be decorating it every year. So many of our classmates have come together from her passing. Sad it takes something like this to get us all together. Our high school is a combination of 6 towns, so we had a good sized class. This past summer was our 20th class reunion and it helped us get the word out about her passing since we had just gotten a hold of most of the people for that.
A tree just seems to be about the perfect thing to remember someone with. So many people and creatures can enjoy it.

Bill what a wonderful lasting memorial to your friend. It'll be a while before you can plant that tree if you got the snow we got up here. They still haven't plowed my street yet in front of my house. My boss came in on the side street next to my house that is main road and she picked me up. My little car never would have made it through all that snow. 14 inches so far. My neighbor across from us had to snow blow the road from his driveway to the corner to get his car out. What a mess. My hubby wants to move South. If I had a job waiting I'd be out of here. Winter is not my favorite time of year. I did get the go ahead from my lung doctor to go cross country skiing so now I have the snow that I needed. Gizmo doesn't like the snow though. He runs when you open the door now. He hasn't been out since last night. He loves staying in where it's warm and sitting on my lap. He's laying on my arm as I type. How's your Giz and the new pup getting along? I had to shovel a path for my older dog to go out and go potty because the snow was up to her belly it was so deep. Well better get some dinner cooking. Barb

Oh my, What a long day for you Bill and I think you got the snow too as we did here in MN...............no school today. Snow Day.


I am so glad you understand the story of the "65 Roses" now, that is a story that brings tears to my eyes and yet children are always so accepting of their fate. They are the brave ones.



I am glad you are planting a tree in memory of Regina. We have one in our front yard in memory of our son and it has been there 19 years now and how it has grown. I feel the branches are always reaching up to heaven to remind our son how dearly he was loved and to please watch over us, especially his Mom during the times I sit and hold his picture and cry my heart out.



Also sharing your stories and talking about Regina is a wonderful way to keep her memory alive. Keep on doing that and know my heart is with you and my prayers are yours.



Anne, I suspect you may have gotten the snow today too. Your support of everyone here has not gone un-noticed and your words of comfort mean a lot to everyone. Your faith will carry you far and sharing it with the members here is a gift. Thank you.



Denise, I do use my therapist well and well as my Pdoc who has put me on an every 2 month schedule for visits for now.....................I feel like I am stronger then I was in 2006 for sure yet I know that I can crash so I keep on working on myself and know I am always a work in progress, always changing and hopefully growing.



I will do the back exercises, but I may get down and stuck. LOL



Joy, Boy you must be from the same background as me as I have a mouth full of sweet teeth. Apples sound good so keep it up. I know your excited and yet nervous...........but hey, you are normal my friend. (((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) Your surgery is going to be just fine.

You have the biggest, kindest heart and yes it was not long ago that you lost your good friend and now it is the holidays and I know you are thinking of him as well as his family. Do you have a special picture of your friend that you might have reproduced and framed and give it to his partner for Christmas. I know how I cherish every picture I have of my son and people still find a picture of him among their own and will give it to me. It helps me to remember him by having all the pictures. Just a thought.



I also buy gifts for someone the same age as my son would be now and donate them to our Family services to be distributed to someone who needs a helping hand. I would have spent the money on my son and picking out the gifts myself is soothing and a way of doing something in his memory. I keep this one to myself and do not even share it with my family........I just do it.



To each of you know I care and I am here for whatever you may need.



I do work tomorrow and then I will be on a short vacation starting on Saturday through Tuesday of next week.



But I will let you know before I am offline.

Bill, I am proud of you for going with the tatoos.  (((((((((Hugs)))))))))))).

I am going to Las Vegas where it is a balmy 44 degrees.  I will still need my mittens.  My daughter and son-in-law are taking me for my birthday present (which was last month)  but we could not go until this week-end.  We are going to the Cher concert. 

I am so excited to go.

Hi y'all-
My son and I are deciding which tattoo to get in support of Cystic Fibrosis and could use a little help. These are the designs we are looking at for ideas. My son likes the first one and I am favoring the second one. The others are in the running also.










Any ideas are appreciated.
We are also going to add Reggie's name and dates on there somewhere

Thanks for giving me your opinion. I am stuck between the 2. Might even get both. I still couldn't sleep last night. I get giggly thinking of some of the things we did and then I cry.

Bill I like the second one because of the cross and the colors are really nice. Also if your friend had spiratual beliefs like you the cross would make and even better choice in her memory. I love the poem. It made me cry too. I couldn't sleep the night of my friends funeral or any loved ones funerals for that matter. It will get better though. I'll keep you and Regina's family in my prayers.

Kitt, I could say the same is true of you. I have a picture of my friend up in the living room with him holding my little dog Gizmo whom he loved so much. I had brought him over to see him at his house when he was house bound after returning from the hospital in Madison where he had his transplant. That visit brought him a lot of much needed Joy. That is such a wonderful gesture to buy gifts and donate them in memory of your son. I hope you have fun on your vacation. At least you will get away from all this snow.

Anne, I know this year will be the hardest for you with losing your mom. I know my first year when I was only 18 and my mom died the day after Thanksgiving it was very hard. Try to think of the memories of your mom that make you happy. That makes it a bit easier. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you.

Joy what kind of art do you do? Art was my favorite class in school. Maybe you could do some of that to keep your mind off your surgery. Well time for a nap so I'm chipper for my birthday party tomorrow. Barb

I love painting, crochet, cross stitching, and jewelry making.
I just got finish making a puppet for my nephew and a biblical costume for my niece.
I'm trying to keep my hands busy so I don't nibble so much.

Hello Bill and which design did you end up picking for your tattoo?  Great input from all and reading other's opinions made me notice the great points in each of the designs. I think in the end whatever you picked will be the right one for the right reason.

Joy,  you are artistic...........awesome.  I always which I had some talent.  I do play the radio well and love to go to art museums.  I look good in diamonds but alas with my osteo my hands don't work as well as they should so making jewlery is out of the question.  I would love to see some of your designs as I am sure they are beautiful.

As for me, back to work tomorrow.  I am going with the special ed kids on a field trip to a play uptown. Several have medical needs thus I go along.
