Hi Anne, so good to see you on HW. Sorry you had so much snow. We haven't had a huge snow storm since the 14 inches. I think the last one was 4 inches. Our neighbor saw me with my bandaged hand and came right over and did our sidewalks and driveway. He even went right up to the house. We are so lucky to have such good neighbors that help us out. Hope you are doing well. My hand is to be expected as I had surgery 12/28 on it. It's just worse than last time. Didn't expect that part of it. Oh well that's life.

I have been wondering where you have been! We got some negative temps, but they did struggle and get above zero for a few hours during the day. Supposed to rain here and then turn back to snow some day later this week I think.

Denise-
Yeah, sounds like she is going to be on the Varsity, but we still have tryouts to deal with. Being asked to go on the Varsity Spring trip is a huge step though. The only ones who usually get asked are the ones they plan on playing Varsity. We'll see what happens.

My stomach's doing fine as long as I don't overeat. My energy level is fine. I've got a student teacher who is a real fireball. She is quicker to spot trouble brewing than I am. She makes me feel old.

Glad to year you're doing well! It's great that you have a student teacher to help you get through these first weeks back. Good plan! When I had my wrap surgery I had such horrible lung problems, and my class was so sick, that I couldn't go back after two weeks as I had planned. In fact, I had to give up my student teacher, who was reassigned. Oh well...best laid plans!

What an exciting thing for your daughter. It sounds as if they've made their decision to bring her up. Hope she has a great season, and you can enjoy all of it!

Joy over eating will probably be a problem for the rest or your life. I still have problems if I eat one bite or sip too many I suffer terrible and it had been 9 years since I had my wrap. It does get better where you can eat a little more than you can at first but it takes a while. Just be patient and careful.

Bill, the warm temps must just be up North further. We got to 35 today. It felt really great out after the really cold temps.

It did crack 30 here today! Heatwave!

Joy, Barb is right. You will have to watch the over eating from now on. I have to still watch it and I still pay for one bite too many. I did it last night. The chicken strips were just too good and I had one too many bites. I was miserable for hours.

Well Happy Birthday to ME! Yep today I am officially 2019!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL! Any special plans? Make sure you don't eat too much cake. You don't want to be miserable on your birthday. I think it's something you'll have to watch the rest of your life. Sometimes it's really hard to pass up that last bite. I've learned it's better to give it to the dog than suffer. Have a great day! Barb

I'm also learning what foods I can mix, too.

I made the mistake of eating a grill cheese, chocolate milk and a very small brownie.

No more chocolate for several months! cry nono smhair



Oh, well, I guess it's time to leave that vice alone. mad

Don't feel bad Joy. I can't eat chocolate either or I shouldn't any way. I have chronic gastritis too so I can't really eat any of the foods that cause acid reflux too. When I cheat I really pay for it. After my operation I was surprised by how little food filled me up. Barb

Joy, Barb, and Denise-
Thanks....I actually had a nice supper. They had crawfish and crablegs, so my daughter and I were set. Michelle doesn't like them much, but the rest of us love them. I got plenty of sleep today too. Probably too much, but nobody was home and the dogs and I had a great day snoozing!

Barb- hope that hand stops hurting quickly. I sure didn't think it would have been worse than the left one. Hang in there. I am praying the pain eases up.

No we can't get too many nice days that's for sure. I pray all is going well with you. Hope some of that snow is melting too! We got rid of a lot the other day when it warmed up. I am so ready for Spring to get here.
I am off to bed for a nap before early practice tomorrow....Almost forgot about it!

Bill, glad you had a nice birthday! I think I am caught up on all my sleep I lost. Today I am going to get out of the house and go to the gym, grocery store and drug store. I think it will help to get out of the house. I certainly didn't expect my right hand to hurt any more than the left one did so it's been kind of depressing. Last night my hand went to sleep so I'm not sure what that was about since this surgery is supposed to fix any problems with that. I didn't really have too much of that problem before the surgery it was mostly pain. Work should be interesting with my hand like this. Oh well I'll be picking up my refill on the pain meds today and if I have to I'll be taking them. Today I have to get my German potato salad made for the family reunion tomorrow. Every one looks forward to that. I'm still not sure how I'm going to lift the crock pot but will figure something out. I'll have help once I get there getting it in and out. I think I'll have to put the salad in separate containers and then transfer it to the crockpot once I get there. Boy is my little Gizmo going to be sad when I go back to work. He follows me every where and is always on my lap. He's on my arm right now as I type. He likes laying on the left one for some reason. Hope practice went well and spring will be here soon.

Anne, I'm with Bill hoping you lost some of that snow. Our's is slowly melting up here in North Country.

Bill, I love lazy days, too. I've got a three day weekend. I wanted to relax on Monday and do nothing, but I've got an eye appointment. $30 and blinded for hours from dilaition. I need to go also to my PCP for some blood work. Doctors, doctors....

I'm afraid I might have flubbed up. I'm having some burning. I've already took my nexium and chewed four tums and still having some burning. I'm afraid my stomach has becomed reactive. I'm afraid I'll need to take my Zantac tonight, too.
I'm trying hard to overcome my bad eating habits. Now that I don't have the pain in my stomach from the sutures to remind me to eat careful I feel myself sliding back into my old eating habits. I've never had a "full" signal from my stomach in the past. I just ate what was in front of me with no thought. I'm trying to listen to it now, but it's not sounding.
Does anyone have any tips on how to control youself so you don't overdo it?

Hi Joy,
It's a challenge. I think most people make themselves more aware because if they're not, they know they'll suffer greatly. My stomach is healing from a bad flare-up, and I have to make myself avoid eating too much or the wrong things.

A couple weeks after my wrap I thought I could eat Pad Thai because it had noodles. Well I found out I was wrong. Those rice noodles were way too chewy, and I was rewarded with what felt like some bad reflux. Learned my lesson the hard way.

I don't know if you've seen Barb and my conversations regarding Carafate. If you need something to protect and soothe your stomach and wrap. If you have good insurance, you could try the liquid version. It is great. If you can't get that, you can use the generic version, but put the tablet into a little medicine cup, add a bit of water, and stir it, then throw it back. I highly recommend it.

Don't worry. We've all been there--thinking we did something bad to our wraps when in the early stages of healing.
Things will calm down and you'll do just fine.

I too had about the same eating habits you had. I would eat 2 sandwiches no matter what etc. The best thing I can tell you is to believe in portion control. Start by cutting the size of your prtions in half of what you normally would have. I have found that after eating one sandwich if I wait a few minutes and take a few drinks of water or what ever I have I will get the full signal and not feel hungry anymore. They key for me is to give myself the extra time I need to get the signal I am actually full. If I eat slow enough I will get full before finishing.
I know all too well what you are going through and how it hurts after wards. Once everything feels god inside there isn;t anything to remind us to go easy with the food.
If you are having isses with a certain food triggering gerd symptoms then please take Denise's advice and try the Carafate. I didn;t have much luck with it, but a lot of people have great results. I have never tried to take it as a liquid, just took the pills themselves and drank water.
I also got better results from Malox antacids and have used them lately again. As I said, I too struggle with old bad habits even after 2 Nissens. Sure would think I would learn wouldn't you?

Joy, Gizmo is a chihuahua. Dark brown and white. He looks like the Gremelin. He's my baby. He makes me laugh every day with his antics and is very loving and sweet. He can be a mean gremelin when strangers come around. We're working on that with him. Try some of Bill and Denises suggestions for eating because you don't want to over eat and be misserable for hours. Well I'm getting really sleepy no so it's time for bed now. Barb

Gizmo is an idea name for a chihuahua. I think the teacup variety is adorable.
I used to have a chihuahua/ toy manchester mix when I was a little girl. His name was Wiggles, because he didn't wag his tail, he'd wag his whole body. He was killed by some stray dogs in the neighborhood. :(

Joy, it sounds like you did an awesome job at the wedding you went to today. Keep up the good work. My son named Gizmo after the Gremlin because he was his dog first and when I met him for the first time I told him it was the perfect name for him. Your little dog sounded like he was adorable. What a cute name too. I love little dogs. I do worry about him around other dogs because he is so small though. He thinks he's big though. I love any size dog but for my house little is the best. Do you have a dog now? Unfortunately I shouldn't have dogs since I am allergic but I can't get rid of the little buggers now. Hopefully the allergy shots will kick in and help with that problem. Well have to go get ready for bed and a few more things for work tomorrow. Barb
