Morning all! my name is christine and im new to the board - i've had GERD for 2 yrs now along with a hiatel hernia - and during that time i've tried all the OTC and lesser Rx meds until i was finally put on nexium. Its been working really well until iheard about this surgery called Esophyx - did any one get this done? what was the cost? how was recovery?

i also have a condition called vertigo that ive had for about a year now - but thats a whole other issue! lol

Some people have vertigo with GERD, did you know?

Lowdown had the surgery last year. Read his thread.

I was going to have the EsophyX procedure, but my HH was too big. What size is your HH? If it's over 2cm it's too dangerous for you. Your stomach will pull up into your chest.

My surgeon suggested the Hill procedure for me. He reduced my HH and took the floppy top part of my stomach and wrapped it 270 degrees around my esophagus. The recovery was very smooth and very little pain. My cost was low, because I had met my deductible for the year. about $500.00 for me.

wow! thanks joy! i had no idea that ppl who have gerd also have vertigo - are you one? i have no idea how big my HH is - that might be in my records - i will double check with my dr

im def going to double check into that Hill procedure!

I get vertigo once and awhile, in fact I had an attack yesterday. I was hoping the Surgery would of helped it. Maybe it will I'm still in the recovery phase.

Make sure your doctor is a bariatric surgeon. They are the best at stomach related surgeries.

The surgeon who did my first Nissen is a bariatric surgeon and he messed mine up really bad. In fact it was done all wrong and it took them almost 3 years to figure out what happened. What he wrote in the surgical notes isn't what he did. It took a general surgeon who specializes in Nissen redos and swallowing disorders to figure out what was wrong with my first Nissen.

i was wondering has anyone have GERD and vertigo and HH before they got pregnant? my husband and i are talking about that but im really scared since i have all 3

Not preggs, never was. But I have GERD, Vertigo, and HH.

GERD can cause nausea and dizziness for some people.



May I suggest that if you have GERD with HH you may want to deal with that first before becoming pregnant. Increased heartburn is possible for pregnancy. Your symptoms will most likely get temporarily worse as your pregnancy progresses which could lead to you not wanting to eat. The not eating would be the dangerous part. You and your child will need to get enough nutrients. If you get too nauseous and end up throwing up regularly then you also lose more nutrients.



Your best source to guide you is your physician so please do discuss your very legitimate concerns re pregnancy with him/her.

thanks kitt - we are taking care of the gerd 1st and getting the vertigo under control we were just wondering if anyone had all 3 and then got pregnant what their pregnancy experience was like
